So the first mainland China film released by Criterion is Gu Jun's The Everlasting Flame? Errrrr.... (I never consider The Last Emperor as a mainland China film.)

"Tokyo Olympiad" is awesome. As a standalone, that would sell well. The Olympics Collection is going to be a tough sell to even hardcore film fans/collectors like us. But there's no doubt it's an important release in terms of film preservation/history.

As awesome as this is, there's only a few things I really want out of this collection. That being said I think I'd pay $100 alone for 4K or 2K restored footage of just The Dream Team from 1992.

Bamboozled is a criminally under-appreciated, satirical masterpiece imo.

I don't agree with everything that Spike Lee has to say in it, but it says so much about race and entertainment in our society.

...the digital video format did not serve it well though.

I really want that Olympic set, but Criterion don't ship internationally

What are the odds of this one popping up on Amazon or Barnes and Noble?

$400 SRP
$200 on Sale during BN July sale. Half the fun will be seeing how much forum members can chisel away from that 2 bills.

Or slightly more than an OOP copy of Tokyo Olympiad.

This'll be the ultimate CC fan litmus test.

If you shell out a few bills for the Olympics set but never considered the 30 for 30 set when it has been under 35$ a bunch of times...you may have a Criterion problem.

So glad I finally took the plunge on an OOP copy of Tokyo Olympiad a couple of months back...

An incredible release for someone like me who is fascinated by the cultural and geo-political history of the games as much as the sporting events themselves. Count me in Day 1. And the preorder price is $319.96 on a SRP of $399.95, so a good discount up front. No waiting for 50% sales this time. Merry Christmas to me.

I posted this on another board, but this seems like something that’s aimed more at institutions (libraries, universities) and sports/Olympics/history buffs than the usual Criterion fanbase. I could also see it getting some press coverage from outlets that usually wouldn’t cover a Criterion release.

In spite of the price, I could see it selling well, especially if they get it on the shelves at places like Costco around Christmastime.

Personally speaking, I’ll be picking it up, but I don’t know that I’ll ever watch everything in there.

Default 100 Years of Olympic Films

Probably won't be a day one purchase but I'll get it next year during a flash sale. To be able to watch parts of it every two years will be special.

I would expect individual releases of Tokyo Olympiad, Olympia and Visions of Eight down the road, perhaps in a year or three. But this box is likely to be the only way to get the best majority of these films, as most wouldn't have much individual sales value.

What an amazing collection, though. I hope many of the films make it to Filmstruck.

I'm generally known as a big spender around these parts, but I've finally met my match.

I'll just keep enjoying my $20 Criterion Blu-ray of Downhill Racer.

Yeah... we will probably see this on sale at Costco during Christmas 2019 for $149.

Can I wait that long? One word answer... NO!

It looks sweet and has a lot of nice footage but as much as I like it I can't down that much money.
