Anyways, I remember it well because he played that 88' show a few months after I saw Ministry and The Revolting Cocks at the same venue. That was a thrash fest and of course the bands looked intimidating, especially Al Jourgensen (who hopefully is resting in peace) What was so funny and now ironic since Al is gone, was that everyone was talking about how old Iggy was and looked, as I think he was past 40 then. At that time, many younger punks were transferring into the newer punk/progressive faze at that time. There was still respect for the guys that paved the way, but there was a push for newer blood in that style of music. I remember talking to my friends about it later how I though Iggy looked like he could beat the hell out of all the members of the last show we saw there, which was the Ministry show. Now, almost 30 years later, and thanks for those pics Owl, he still looks like he could beat the hell out of any 20+ year old punk. IGGY will live on, long after he is dead, which says a lot for his music and most importantly, his never stop spirit.
Anyways.... Back to your regularly scheduled Criterion discussion...
I had to double check about Al Jourgensen after reading this post, and he's still alive and well. Actually, scratch that, I mean that he's still alive.

I never did see Ministry or Revolting Cocks, but I'd love to have seen them during the late 1980s.

Some friends and I went to see Front 242 in concert a couple of weeks ago, and we're going to see KMFDM and ohGr in a few days. It's been a fun year for revisiting the good old industrial days.

IGGY!

They should just interview him for all future releases and have him give his opinion on the film. He is always interesting.

Wow, the upcoming (but unscheduled) release of The Passion of Joan of Arc, sourced from a new 4K restoration, looks like a night and day improvement over the UK release, and all others. I didn't expect there to be such a big improvement, as I read there were limitations with the source material.

These are sourced from Janus Film's banner, and may not be representative of the actual AR.

DOH!! I could have sworn I read about Al dying a few years ago... Yeah, he is still alive, thanks Google. Now you have me thinking who the guy that died is?? I know Trent Reznor is still alive. I will have to check this out. I think I was thinking about Scott Weiland, but now I can't remember. Getting older sucks.. Anyways, it looks like all the old Wax Trax records bands are coming back to life... Open all the dance clubs back up!!! The good ol' days in the land of rape and honey....

Saw Nitzer Ebb in the late 80's. Actually saw them in rehearsal before the show. Those guys back then looked like they were 18 yr old skate punks. Their stuff was all taped or programmed with drums and triggers as the only visible instruments. I never saw an act quite like them - real angry and kinda scary. They weren't the headliners, but they just about blew out everyone's eardrums before anyone else took the stage. LOL!

I was reminded of Blue Is the Warmest Color today, and noticed that they removed the 'upcoming comprehensive edition' promise from the film's page. Did we ever find out what the story was there?

I never saw Nitzer Ebb, sadly, but I was a big fan back in the day, and I still shake the dust off of their CDs from time to time.

Speaking of Trent Reznor, I saw Nine Inch Nails on their first headlining tour in 1990, when Meat Beat Manifesto opened for them. That was a wild night. My friend got knocked unconscious at the show from the violent slam-dancing, and I had blood all over me from the mosh pit.

Not to hijack, but has the Criterion Eclipse series been cancelled? I’m sure this has already been addressed, but I can’t locate a discussion..

There's been no official word, but the last set was released over two years ago, so it's not looking good. If anything, there might be a set here, or there, but few and far between. I think Criterion has instead opted to go digital with any newer acquisitions and collections, via FilmStruck, and of course opting to release some on Blu-ray when possible.

Nitzer Ebb was also at the Metro in the late 80's too. It used to be called, 'The Cabaret Metro' then, nothing fancy anymore. Another wild show with lots of fun moshing. I think they opened for Depeche Mode too one concert (Music for the Masses or Violator tour??) , but again, getting old..mind is going. Again, like you said, another crazy looking bunch of guys..... that Iggy still would have beat up.....

Sorry, couldn't resist... back to CC related stuff...like where the hell are the Chaplin releases!!!

All I care about is that Criterion announces that they're putting out the definitive edition of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for next years 50th anniversary.

I think the general consensus around these parts is that it's doubtful at best given the fallout between Kechiche, Exarchopoulos, and Seydoux. To answer your question, there hasn't been an official statement on it and Criterion quietly removed that caption on the page earlier this year.

I've had problems with both.

DD is FAR slower to actually resolve issues though.

Never had major damage with Amazon. I've had things obliterated with DD. And the DD packaging isn't reusable like Amazons is. So it is basically just land fill instead of being usable again.

I am a big DD fan b/c of pricing so I continue to use them, but if you have a problem there is a trade off.

Last year October's announcements were on 10/14 (Friday). The sale was on the 17th.

I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if the announcements were on Friday the 13th.

If this is true, awesome! I've got the MoC import, but I would definitely double dip for the Criterion. This is a film everybody should see. It's so powerful.

The MoC disc already looks incredible from what I remember, even if there were no improvement I assume the CC version will include the Voices of Light score so it will be easy to justify double dip.
