I really enjoy short, completely plot free reviews that describe style, mood, cinematography, and things of that sort, so please keep them coming.
I haven't heard much about Tiny Furniture since its release. Can we discuss that, please??

There's furniture and it's not large. In fact, one could describe it as being less than average. Tiny, if you will. It's a brilliant meditation on when furniture is not sufficiently large enough. Lena Dunham really had her finger on the pulse of the nation at that moment. There was hordes of furniture that simply wasn't sizable enough, diminutive even, being moved into people's homes unannounced. We've since thankfully moved past that difficult period.

Perhaps the furniture is so tiny that it would make a companion piece to Alexander Payne's upcoming "Downsizing".

Nah, I didn't think so, either.

Very good assessment. I'd like to hear your take on Straw Dogs now.

'Tis funny.... I've been a fan of Straw Dogs for decades now, and I've seen the movie in every home video format multiple times, but it's never occurred to me to wonder what the title meant.

It turns out that it's from a Chinese saying. "Heaven and Earth are heartless / treating creatures like straw dogs".

Straw Dogs, Plague Dogs, Strontium Dog, Reservoir Dogs. Just put a random word in front of Dog(s) and it sounds cool, even if it's a meaningless title.

Snow Dogs fails the litmus test. Though if that film were about cocaine trafficking, the title could probably sound cool.

FINALLY received my flash sale order today. I don't know what took so long, but oh well, all is right with the world now!

Got Rebecca, David Lynch: The Art Life, and the Rosselini/Bergman box. Don't know where to start!

I wouldn't mind a Criterion release of The Man Who Never Was. If ever a film deserved historical extras, it's that one.

That movie should never be discussed anywhere. Ever. Easily the worst movie in the collection.

Worse than the Jellyfish movie?

Granted, I haven't seen either. I just hear people complain a lot about both.

Don't mean to derail anything here, but I gotta say that after buying a few from Criterion, those cases are damn nice. Very solid and I even like the color.

"Jellyfish Eyes" and "Tiny Furniture" both really suck, but I kind of understand why they put out "Tiny Furniture" to coincide with "Girls" since there is a demographic that appeals to. Why they put out "Jellyfish Eyes", I have no idea. It's inexplicable.

But ... but ... Jellyfish Eyes is Ray's favorite movie!

The director is a very well known contemporary artist. His work has been shown all around the world and has even had pieces go for millions at Sotheby's and Christie's.

Even I've heard of Murakami. Can't say I'm a fan of his work, but I recognize that many are.

Then again, I don't really get Japanese culture at all, to begin with.
