I liked this person's guess from criterionforum.org

Quote:
Incredibly stupid guess: Knights are referred to as “Sir”, it’s an L, so… El sur?
BFI released a BD of it January in the UK, so it's possible Criterion could release one here. Next year is also the film's 35th Anniversary.

Likely:

Dead Man
Graduation

Possible:

The Thin Man series

Who the Hell Knows:

The Tree of Life: Extended edition
"L" Knight??
I dont think The Tree of Life will be the extended cut but from what I have heard it defo has a feature that makes it worth buying and separates it from existing releases.

At first I was thinking this is the worst clue drawing ever with all the emphasis on streaming but if that crescent moon is for Paper Moon, all is forgiven......

On top of being a clue for Graduation and Beyond the Hills (given the hills scenario and being directed by the same director), I believe there is also another clue for 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days.

There are nine graduation caps.

4 + 3 + 2 = 9

The skeleton isn't Dead Man imo. They've already beyond confirmed it.

I think it's Bringing Up Baby. Cary Grant is known as "Mr. Bone" and works with skeletons in the film. Plus Skippy the dog is in that film as well as The Awful Truth so it would explain why he's next to the skeleton.

Don't rule out the possibility of a double hint. There was a tombstone hint last year where a bunch of people guessed They Live at Night, while others guessed Night of the Living Dead. Both camps were right.

That being said, I suspect those extra virgin olive oil may be a double hint for The Virgin Suicides and The Virgin Spring.

BTW, speaking of The Thin Man, TOM is showing all six tonight.

So I'm definitely going to get my NYE showing of After the Thin Man.

Which is nice.

With the heavy emphasis on streaming, I fears it's "I am Curious (Yellow)" which they are streaming.

Was hoping to see clues for Hard Eight or Looking for Mr Goodbar, or Klute or After Hours or ... well honestly kind of let down by drawing. I知 sure they have great titles coming this year not pictured but to me while there are some I知 interested in I知 not wowed by any of them.

And I知 going to be honest here I知 a democrat and all but I have no interest in Bowling for Columbine ... I really hate Michael Moore he just gets on my nerves. And I saw this at the movies when it came out but over the years I feel like Moore is just a hack.

Could there be a clue for Bend of the River, Anthony Mann, 1952?

Or, it could be Flowing (Mikio Naruse, 1956.)

Attempting to decipher the annual Criterion puzzle is always good fun...I just wish WAC would indulge us with a similar puzzle for their 2018 slate!
