That's very surprising to me. I'm gonna agree with some others and chalk it up to your mood at the time. I hope you'll give it another try in the future.

I won’t. Once was enough. Already sold it.

I loved L’avventura the one time I saw it before.

With the discussion about challenging films-Very early tomorrow morning TCM will be showing The Tree of Wooden Clogs @ 2:15am EST. I've never seen it before so I'll give it a whirl. My time zone puts it in a fairly doable starting time so I'll get an idea if it's a film I want to own.

IF you're region free and you decide to own it, have in mind that the Arrow bluray has corrected the heavy teal of the Ritrovata restoration found in the Criterion bluray.
So, you can decide what version you want.

Nope. I removed the link. Only 5 people voted. Not enough interest this year.

I'm not familiar with this one but I've added it to my wish list based your post. It sounds like it might be hypnotic in the same way Slow TV is.

My votes were spread across the 100 Years of Olympic Films set, Blow-Up, Barry Lyndon, Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy, Othello, and the Hitchcock releases. And I want to see Denis Villeneuve visit the fabled closet.

Yeah Barry Lyndon is clearly the Criterion release of the year.

I didn't vote, but it would have been for Stalker, I'm sure.

I didn't think of it as a particularly challenging film. It is slow, but in a kind of neo-realist, lyrical way - not abstract or overly artsy.

I liked it.

I don’t vote, mostly because I don’t think I buy/watch enough Criterions in a year to be fair about it, but if I did, I would have cast these votes.

Best Cover Art: Mildred Pierce
Favorite Blind Buy: The Breaking Point
Best Over-all Release: His Girl Friday

For me, The Before Trilogy was the release of the year. I watched them all in a triple feature the week it was released.

Favorite blind buy: Festival. So much fun. Worth it alone for Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.

A friend of mine introduced this film to me three years ago saying it was a suspense film, couldn't be more accurate. The pacing is just so delicate and masterful. I even had the chance to see it on big screen last year and it's just getting better and better each time I dive into it.
