Considering all of Criterion's Wes Anderson releases are director approved / supervised, any perceived teal-ing comes from the man himself.

I haven't commented on the latest Wes Anderson discussion... but my thoughts are: His films are like cute, little puppy dogs you just want to cuddle. I treat his films like I was petting a dog. Quaint, silly, quirky, eccentric.

Some might think Moonrise Kingdom has been tealed but its how it looked in the cinema and its colour scheme and overall look I believe are a deliberate attempt to capture the feel of 60s home movies. It was shot in 16mm for that purpose, I think,

I watched The Long Day Closes from Terence Davies over the weekend and really loved it.

Very quick Letterboxd write up.

I've never felt like I, as the viewer, was as much a character in a film as this one. The slow moving, meandering, and personal camera work in this film places you behind the camera, as if you are a part of the film, living alongside the main character as if you are an uncredited character of this story. It almost felt like a coming-of-age music video. It's hard to put into words the intricacies that make this film special, but they are there. Really surprised by this one.

Reading an interesting article about Hedy Lamarr today:

http://people.com/tv/who-was-hedy-lamarr-timeless/

Does anyone know who would own the rights to Ecstasy(1933)?

Would love to see this film and maybe through Criterion they could make it happen?

Thoughts?

When do the summer Barnes and Noble sales usually happen? June or July?

Ecstasy is in the public domain and you can view it for free on Youtube.

The fact that it's freely available might discourage a company such as Criterion from releasing it.

Criterion has posted an 11 minute video by David Bordwell on the "Narrative Symmetry" in Chungking Express. Excerpt of it below.

They’ve GOT to be announcing something Wong Kar Wai in July. It’ll be a big month. Definitely no Tree of Life, though. They’re still cutting stuff for it.

Siri, show me a hot take that’s both wrong and condescending.

I just feel like there's the same discussion on here about the merits of one of (or both of) them as filmmakers every few weeks.

What is everyone's thoughts on Fellini’s Roma?

I generally consider myself a Fellini fan. I love La Dolce Vita, La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, Amarcord, 8 1/2, Juliet of the Spirits, Casanova, City of Women heck I can even semi-enjoy Satyricon but this film is so disjointed. Im only about 40 minutes in but I had to stop and take a break lol Im planning on finishing it out of respect to Fellini but wow what am I missing?

I'm also a Fellini fan and I had a similar reaction on my first watch. I think because it started with the same vibe as Amarcord, which I love, I was put off when it went to a more contemporary timeline. The best point in the film was
[Show spoiler]the little girl reciting the dirty versions of some Nursery Rhymes
which was hilarious. I liked it more on a rewatch since I knew where it was headed. Two of my wanted Fellini's would be an upgrade of Juliet of the Spirits and a release of what I think is an under appreciated gem-Ginger and Fred.

I'm sure this isn't correct, but I recently stumbled across the poster art for the 2008 documentary Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, and I was struck by how similar it is to the tree in the Criterion NYD drawing. The film isn't on BD yet, and it's the 10th anniversary of it, but Oscilloscope Laboratories has the rights, and I'm not sure if they've ever licensed to Criterion before. It's probably for Tree of Life anyway

Could a proud owner of The Complete Jacques Tati please confirm the existence of artwork underneath the disc trays of each DigiPack? Also, could you confirm if there is artwork inside of the Slipbox (which houses all of the DigiPacks)?

Thank you!

No artwork under the trays or inside the slipbox - just plain ol' beige coloured card.
