Only a short film contained in this DVD.

Pool Sharks (1915).

Edit: Well, as you can see with the following replies, there are other short films included as extras.

Not as a mainline feature. Bucking Broadway (1917) is on the Stagecoach release as an extra. There may be others that I'm not recalling, and there have been several short films that they have released that pre-date 1920 (such as The Rink (1916) on the Modern Times release).

There's a couple Chaplin short films from the 1910's on a few of the Chaplin BD's.

Also, several of the shorts on the Harold Lloyd movies are from the late teens.

Mostly shorts as extras. Modern Times features a Chaplin short from 1916. Au Revoir Les Enfants features Chaplin’s The Immigrant from 1917. That’s just off the top of my head there might be more. No full length movies on their own though.

I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question. I have a friend who is blind and he is interested in "watching" some foreign language films. Does anyone know whether an English soundtrack is ever available on Criterion releases? Thanks

I watched I Married A Witch on TCM last week and I think it had a better transfer than the Criterion blu-ray. I recorded it on the dvr and compared to my disc and the TCM broadcast didn't have all the horizontal lines and such all the time like the disc.

I believe the rule of thumb is that if the film was dubbed into English but released uncut, they will include it, but if the film was cut for the English language release, and thus never dubbed in full, they won't. So generally no, but potentially yes, best to check case-by-case (unfortunately). I don't think they create new dubbed tracks for anything.

Maybe there are some pre-1920 films in the Eclipse sets?

That's a funny slip up. Considering Jean Renoir is a director in the Collection.

I found it weird that The Immigrant is on that release. What's the relation?

Also, is that the only way to get The Immigrant or is it on one of the Chaplin Blu-rays? Nothing against the Malle film, I loved it, but I'd rather go for the French release with the superior transfer.

Pretty sure the new huge Olympics set goes back far enough to include some.

The relation is that the boys in the school are shown watching The Immigrant projected in an activity hall at the school.

You sure you saw the film?

Yes, just once, and it's been awhile. Huh. That's pretty cool reasoning then.
