How interesting. I saw the back of the Criterion DVD as just 'licenced from American Zoetrope', knew there were Warner DVDs in the US and Warner have the UK rights, and figured since it was coming out over here too that it must be the same both sides of the pond. Maybe that is why there was a slight delay in Criterion UK announcing it for over here!

Either way, would be great to get some Warner titles like After Hours and any of the others such as in The Sovereign's list. Given Scorsese's involvement with Criterion and the fact they've released other films of his, I'd have thought something like After Hours would be a great title to go for.

That said, the original post art is beautiful, so if WAC release it hopefully they keep it intact

Actually wait, I just recalled something about a Criterion/Image partnership - wasn't it the case that Image used to distribute Criterion titles? Just had a quick Google and came across this:

https://criterioncast.com/news/the-c...nt-rlj-in-2014

Based off the images in that, Image wasn't the licensor - one of those is clearly Columbia!

Hopefully WAC will take care of many of these, but I'm always going to hope for Criterion first.
Hud is probably my most wanted title on Blu-ray, but Criterion would have to license it from Paramount not Warner. I think Warner lost home entertainment rights to Barfly.

Oh okay. I do wonder if Mishima came from Warner though. I figured it would have said so on that press sheet. I wonder if the back of the DVD mentions them?

Yes, the Image and Criterion relationship was as replicator and distributor. Nothing to do with licensing titles. Criterion has since moved over to Sony to act as replicator and distributor.

I'm pretty sure Warner lost rights to Mishima and Criterion licensed it from the legal rights holders back when they released the DVD.

I think the back of the DVD just mentions American Zoetrope. Guess it was/is from them that Mishima was/is licensed?

They pulled a fast one on me with Bergman with the VIRGIN SPRING standalone--I'm unsure what they'll do with the guy now.

Yeah, I'm feeling the kaiju stuff may be in November (if it's this year at all), solely based on the precedent of Zatoichi and Lone Wolf sets being in the same month. This box would be in keeping with those.

I'm thinking Dietrich/Sternberg for July--maybe MOROCCO, SCARLET EXPRESS, SHANGHAI EXPRESS, and BLONDE VENUS. Which would be aces.

I'm sure you're right on both counts. I don't always have a good grasp on that, especially when I start rambling.

What would really kick my ass is a surprise Sjostrom release.

Watched A MAN THERE WAS about a year ago and was totally in love with it. Had a Janus logo at the start too. Film Forum did a screening of it fairly recently, so I'm hoping it pops up.

Maybe on a double disc with THE OUTLAW AND HIS WIFE?

Release some more John Wayne movies for conservatives. The existing ones are out of print. Remember Christmas with the Duke marathon on AMC?

What John Wayne movies exactly are OOP? Criterion is re-releasing Red River as Blu without the DVD. Except for The Shootist, The Alamo, 3 Godfathers and Flying Leathernecks, every Duke film is on Blu by some label or another. I love the Duke but I rather have Criterion release other films that need it than more Wayne.

If a Von Sternberg set is released that includes Morocco, Dishonored, Shanghai Express, Blonde Venus, and The Scarlet Empress then July would be set for me.

American Pop received a DVD release after a long effort to clear the music so hopefully those obstacles have been overcome for future releases too.
