I am very excited about A Raisin in the Sun and My Man Godfrey, especially the latter.

I might pick up A Raisin in the Sun. I saw a different version of this when I was a senior in high school, Danny Glover played Sidney Poitier's character.

If they ever do release Hedwig soon. I hope that a special feature is the original off broadway production because it is truly incredible. They had filmed it also for use somewhere.

Personally, I shop Barnes and Noble online exactly twice a year and only for this Criterion event. My local Barnes and Noble store does not even have a movie department. Other than this event, Barnes and Noble usually sells near everything at full MSRP and there is just no reason to pay that when virtually every other retailer, physical and online, sells below MSRP everyday, not just during sales.

If and when the compact disc is truly gone from the retail landscape, both online and in-store, I might raise an eyebrow. If and when DVDs disappear, I will start to become concerned. Not before.

I will never buy a digital copy of a movie, not from Criterion nor from anyone else. I'm hard headed for hard copies and that will never change. I firmly believe the quality of physical media exceeds that of digital content. I will not change my mind about that, either, so let's not waste anyone's time with the attempt.

I have had 38 internet outages over the last 34 days. My ISP still has not found the cause. I will not allow myself to become dependent upon such an unreliable, and ever more costly, service to watch movies. There is only one broadband provider in my area, so switching is not an option.

That's how I see it and the rest of you are welcome to your own assessments.

B&N is a victim of one terrible executive decision after another, its demise will have nothing to do with the demise of physical media as how many people actually go to the store to get a BluRay/DVD when I can order it from the comfort of home?
These are all valid points, but I gotta say, we have absolutely no control whatsoever when it comes to video distributors releasing physical media. They can stop producing blu-rays and DVDs and we won't be able to stop them, if lets say 10 years from now they all decide to go digital if its in their best interests when it comes to turning profits. We all rely on companies like Criterion/Janus for high quality transferred films on physical media, as we the consumers are not allowed to copy a film onto disk without going to prison for copyright infringement. Therefore, as long as physical media is being produced, we're going to buy physical media for as long as we can until one day everything goes digital or invisible (and I'm talking like decades or a century from now when everything can be downloaded into our brains). Maybe I'm a bit ahead of myself here, but the future is digital because Planet Earth's resources will prob. be devastated and maybe plastics will be engineered to disintegrate within a matter of months or years, so future movies on disk won't last long. Lol.

Getting back to reality, streaming absolutely sucks. Don't even remind me how many times a movie was interrupted because my wireless connection failed. At least with blu-ray disks, I won't lose a signal and I'll always get the best picture and sound possible.

And yeah, if B&N goes out of business, it won't make any impact whatsoever on sales of physical media.

It's a shame they didn't (couldn't?) package Scenes From a Marriage with the sequel Saraband, like in the German set form a few years ago. Still a welcome addition either way.

Nice month! My Man Godfrey has been among my most wanted upgrades. Cold Water looks like an easy blind buy. And even though I haven’t seen it in years, that upgrade to Andrei Rublev looks like a certain release of the year candidate - great features and a stunning, magnificent cover! Oh, and there’s also Bergman and a Poitier classic. Ridiculous month!

I've been holding off buying the Scenes DVD for years. Finally!

And yeah Andrei Rublev is a must in any collection.

A Raisin in the Sun! Looks like Occam's razor was the correct approach to that clue.

I'm in for Scenes from a Marriage, Andrei Rublev, My Man Godfrey, and A Raisin in the Sun, although I can wait to get them during the next sale.

It's not, because sales numbers don't lie. Also, what's not reported much is the chatter from the studios on what THEY want, and what they are pushing for the future, and it's certainly not physical.

And Netflix DVD service is dying pretty quickly. It's also rentals, not sales, which is a completely different thing.

Quote:
While Netflix's streaming service is booming, its DVD-rental service continues to bleed users, losing nearly 200,000 subscribers in the last three months and 4.8 million in the last five years.
The company now has 17 DVD distribution hubs around the U.S., down from 50 in mid-2016, and a former employee tells us internal projections see DVD.com surviving until 2025.

I actually forgot about today's announcements.

I've seen (and loved) My Man Godfrey and A Raisin in the Sun, but I'll probably only pick up Scenes from a Marriage because of my love for Bergman (haven't seen it). I am definitely interested in seeing the other two for the first time.

Life...uh...find a way.

EDIT:
My bad, I kinda misread your sentence and thought you were talking about the issue of plastic not biodegrading. Self-destruction plastic in the future though? That's so crazy, it might just work!

I'm in for the Tarkovsky and Bergman - although both will be blind-buys, so I'll most likely wait for a 50% event.
