Looks like Criterion and BFI had taken two completely different references for The Magic Flute. The tinting generally is what was intended, but such different colours are strange. What does the BFI disc say about the restoration?

Sven Nykvist wrote in 1997 (reprinted in The Ingmar Bergman Archives, 2008): "Ingmar also wanted us to play with color, to work with tinted light and various filters - almost the complete reverse of everything we had done before. [...] He wanted the color changes to appear in tune with the music, which was prerecorded. [...] Sometimes we did not have more than a few seconds for radically changing the lighting in one and the same take."
