The gift certificate is considered part of the payment, so it doesn't affect the free shipping.

My Dinner With Andre sits atop my Criterion "to watch list", jammed in between Wings, which I am just now finishing, and The Birth of a Nation.

To say my movie viewing experience will be somewhat eclectic the next couple of days is an understatement.

Again, my eyes were bigger than my stomach (wallet) and had to cut the original list in half.
Oh well, there's always B&N next month and another flash sale from Criterion in February if I'm not mistaken.

Time to save up those loonies and toonies ; )
I have been on the fence on upgrading my Carnival of Souls DVD as well. I would be curious to see hear yours and others thoughts on the benefit picture/audio wise.

Turns out my wife already had My Man Godfrey in her Amazon 'watch list' so that's easily the most desired of my five movies.

Hopefully Mikey & Nicky leads to Husbands and Minnie & Moskowitz getting a Criterion release. I know its technically an Elaine May film, but its done in the style of Cassavetes and stars John and Peter Falk. If it does well maybe we'll finally get the rest of JC on blu.

Lots of people buying My Man Godfrey, which I love to see. Go after more screwball comedies, Criterion, and they will sell.

I will purchase anything with William Powell, Myrna Loy or Carole Lombard.

Sweet Smell of Success is one of the safest blind buys you could ever make.

Is 'M' The Criterion Collection edition any better than the German edition of the same title?

Looks like Criterion and BFI had taken two completely different references for The Magic Flute. The tinting generally is what was intended, but such different colours are strange. What does the BFI disc say about the restoration?

Sven Nykvist wrote in 1997 (reprinted in The Ingmar Bergman Archives, 2008): "Ingmar also wanted us to play with color, to work with tinted light and various filters - almost the complete reverse of everything we had done before. [...] He wanted the color changes to appear in tune with the music, which was prerecorded. [...] Sometimes we did not have more than a few seconds for radically changing the lighting in one and the same take."

German edition comes from a later restoration and is supposed to have improved video (less damage) and especially audio (less hiss).

Unless you hate the idea of brilliantly caustic dialog and incandescent performances.

In terms of restoration, and best when first released? Sure. Encoding? Not really.
