Anyone too afraid of damage during shipping that they'll venture out to a brick and mortar to try to snag a copy? I had a bit of PayPal credit so I decided to risk it and order it direct from B&N (after the PP credit and my holiday stipend I'll only end up paying $69) I just hope I don't get a smashed copy. What are the odds they'll actually ship it in a bubble mailer?

I putzed around with my order recently, so now I'm stuck waiting til Friday for it to show up. Oh well, let us know if they ship it in a box...

I think B&N is pretty safe to ship in a box. Amazon, who knows...

(Not that shipping in a box guarantees anything much where I live in terms of damage...)

Getting mine UPS as well. Paid extra for "express delivery" (it was only $3) but it'll still only arrive on the 26th. So much for "2-3 business days." At least there's a chance it won't arrive damaged.

I've been thinking of buying the Criterion for a long time but I just haven't done it yet.

I am generally not a fan of von Trier's, but I did like Dancer in the Dark a lot.

I have not seen Breaking the Waves, though.

I didn't care for The Idiots, I loved Dancer in the Dark, I thought Dogville was OK, I didn't care for Melancholia but didn't hate it, I thought Antichrist was possibly a masterpiece but couldn't stand to ever watch it again because it was so gut-wrenching, and I thought Nymphomaniac was way over-the-top and self-indulgent. I think the only one I really kind of disliked was Nymphomaniac, which I personally just didn't get at all and hated the pacing of it and the overt sexuality of it. I think he's talented, but other than Dancer in the Dark I've never had a desire to rewatch one of his movies.

B&N sale pick ups so far:

Ingmar Bergman's Cinema (pre-order/shipped)
The Princess Bride
Rififi
A Touch of Zen
Andrei Rublev
Shoah
Hiroshima Mon Amour

Will be picking up these as soon as they're on shelves:
The Magnificent Ambersons
Some Like It Hot
True Stories

I ordered Bergman online mainly because it'll probably be hard to get in-store and intact, while I try to buy in-store otherwise to support retail.

Does Criterion have a Black Friday sale? Otherwise, how often are their 50% Flash sales?

Also, what are your thoughts on the new Criterion Channel? Will it likely have more Criterion content than Filmstruck had?

No they don't do Black Friday.

4 sales a year, all 50% off. July and November at B&N for a month. February and October on Criterion.com for 24 hours.

B&N Shipping confirmation (to UK) for The Bergman Set WOOOO.

Fingers crossed I get lucky with customs, if not will just refuse the order and buy through Amazon (got order on hold for the $149), only didn't use Amazon cause they automatically include customs fees etc.

No, so far it's just the fact that it's getting a new 4K restoration with no indication or mention of a UHD release.

Besides Rebecca (1940), is there any other Alfred Hitchcock film in Criterion?
