I watched that last night and it was terrific. Like you, I hadn't seen it in quite a while and it was nice to see how it had aged but didn't feel dated. Not something I can say about a lot of other 80s films. I think that film was the first time I ever saw Mantegna, Jay, Walsh, and Macy. I had seen Crouse before, even though I hadn't remembered her.

Re-reading recent pages, saw a couple mentions of titles not appearing on the B&N site any more and being out-of-stock; when I started doing these Criterion sales I was sad when items would literally drop from my cart as they would go "out of stock" only to return on the site within days, sometimes hours, so no worries.

I also noticed this week that searching within B&N for the similar 50% off sale of Arrow does not turn up a particular title at times, while Google search of B&N, Arrow, and the title, did find the page an it was in stock.

Have not seen recent posts here with reference to Costerol.com and had seen some people ordering cheap Criterions from them, so posting the link to this thread, buyer beware...

How funny that both Rourke and Dillon would go on to play Chinaski (and as aside, Factotum has Tomei, who would go on to co-star with Rouke in The Wrestler.)

I've thought about grabbing TT's release of Eureka a couple times, but despite the cast, it just sounds so bizarre. Any opinion on that one?
Just my opinion, however...

I thought Eureka was one of Roeg's most underrated films. Rourke is slimy as hell in it and does well with a small part, but the real standouts are Gene Hackman, who gives a great performance, and a small but memorable part by Rutger Hauer.

I loved it. PQ on the TT disc is very pleasing to my untrained eye. Highly recommended.

Yeah it was really fun. Joe Mantegna is fantastic in this and I thought Ricky Jay's scene at the beginning card game was very effective.

Not only is Crumb not available at my local Barnes, it’s not even available from their distributor, so I can’t order a copy online or for store pickup.

...that really vexes me.

So far I've picked up at my local Barnes and Noble:

The Magnificent Ambersons
Badlands
The Heiress
Swing Time
On The Waterfront
Barry Lyndon
Blue Velvet

They got a huge shipment in today so I'll be going back for more at some point I'm sure.

Now I really want to watch "Star 80", never seen it. Always kind of liked Eric Roberts, sure he is not one of the big ones but he has enough screen presence.

I can recommend "By the sword" for Robert fans, been a while since I have seen it but I liked it.

It looks like The Princess Bride is getting a UHD. It's being reported on another popular forum site.

Just a heads-up that Ace in the Hole is $4.99 on VUDU this weekend if anyone wants it digitally. (Note: It's not MA. It is UV, but that won't do much good after this month.)

https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/...he-Hole/112799

If the link above takes you to an error screen, copy and paste this:

https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/details/Ace-in-the-Hole/112799

Of course, I'm sure the Criterion Blu-ray is far superior, but this is a cheap way to see the movie if you missed it on The Criterion Channel before it expired from that service. I watched it last week and was blown away.

I may get it anyway and get the Criterion later. It's that good. (With that said, I have no idea which master they're using for the VUDU version.)

Are you referring to Criterion, or the upcoming German release?

I cried the first time I saw it.

I bawled my eyes out also. I hope the Criterion release comes with multiple cuts of the film and multiple commentaries, including one from the key grips.
