I stuck my foot in it and ordered from this "place" on 6/29.
Have not received any confirmation or shipping info and I don't expect to receive anything or be able to contact them. I will start the process to get my money back from Paypal next week. So, yes, beware.

I agree, that cover is very cool, but just wait until you watch the film. The direction, cinematography, score, story, acting, and the atmosphere make this film exceptional. It's very dark and surreal, and has that unique 60s aesthetic. It's definitely one of my favorite Criterion blu-rays.

We're a few days out but my guess is

Spine #1000 - Grand Budapest Hotel
Spine #1001 - Citizen Kane

Grand Budapest is IMO a nice piece of fluff (Anderson trying for Coen Bros lite, with his usual flair for gourmet pastry production design) but not the sort of film anyone would reserve a special position for.
Citizen Kane has had a stellar release from the studio that made the film, it's not as if people are waiting for some massive upgrade (of course, that hasn't stopped Criterion from releasing stuff like Strangelove)

So I just watched Kino’s Bob le Flambeur 4K restoration and I have to say to me it looks marvelous. I noticed they also have Leon Morin & Last Year At Marinbad. Has any one seen or heard if these discs will be better than CC’s. I really hate losing the awesome supplements but picture quality is the most important to me.

You can see for yourself.

Leon Morin, Priest: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDReview2/leonmorin.htm
Last Year at Marienbad: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...3&postcount=41

Each from the new 4K restoration and looks better than CC in general.

But the most important thing for me is that this new restoration of Leon Morin, Priest used the 128-minute director's cut, 11 minutes longer than the 117-minute CC release.

Speaking for Marienbad, yes, it will represent a substantial upgrade. StudioCanal’s recent UK release is sourced from a brand new 4K restoration. I have yet to see it, but Pro B gave the release 5/5 for both the PQ and AQ.

I’ll have to check the extras against each other (I think discussion of the upcoming Kino release mentioned a new audio commentary or doc; my memory is fuzzy having been sick. Check the discussion thread). There’s a good chance I end up buying both issues.

I can’t wait to see how gorgeous this will look!

Does anybody know if there's a restoration in the works for Godard's Le mépris? I watched it for the first time a couple mornings ago, and immediately ordered the StudioCanal release upon its completion. Overall, the picture quality as shown on TCM was quite good, considering the high definition transfer is ten years old. However, I think it would benefit tremendously from an overhaul.

Occasionally, a film resonates with me on a very deep level. I don't even try to identify what, specifically, speaks to me at first. I just know that I've been profoundly moved, and anticipate revisiting the film with great frequency in the years ahead. This is one such work.

My appreciation of Godard's artistry is skyrocketing.

Leon Morin is a longer cut, and is a new 4K restoration. Other than Kino's usual raised blacks that look more gray than black, it looks better. But the lack of deep blacks is unfortunate. The Criterion is definitely better in that regard.

The KL Insider I believe said that Contempt(Le mepris) still sits with LG in the US as it wasn't part of the Studiocanal deal.

There is a restoration of 'Contempt' but apparently there are issues with it.

I absolutely despised Contempt when I saw it in a film course. Perhaps a rewatch in a decade.

Finally got around to picking up my last addition to my Chaplin Criterion Collection set (Limelight), so I'll have all 7 when it arrives.

And don't judge me, but I also finally picked up Seventh Seal and Seven Samurai. I've borrowed them too many times from my friends, so I figure I should actually get my own copy now that I'm an adult.

---

On a completely separate topic, I'm thinking about signing up for the Criterion Channel streaming service. My subscriptions through Kanopy are actually quite limited in being able to access the Criterion Collection movies through there, so I'm wondering if a subscription directly to Criterion is worth it. I'm getting a little subscription fatigue between Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Xbox Game Pass, Amazon Prime, AMC A-List, Showtime, Disney when it launches, etc.
