Same here. I've never understood the hate for sleeves on blu-rays. I have many large box sets, and not a single scratched disc... Now DVDs... that's another story....

That first Alien set that came out had them in Sleeves. It just ruined them. Maybe Criterion does a better job at making sure they make the sleeves a certain way to where they don’t get scratched but I’ve never liked them. Would much prefer the paper cases like The Before Trilogy has.

If it’s either a Kurosawa or Shouwa Godzilla box set, I’ll be really happy.

I’d be ecstatic for a Wong Kar-wai box set myself. I’d also be okay with a Godzilla set.

Yeah same here. Especially the plastic cases that pop out. It really really bugs me.

My dream Criterion project is a Kubrick boxset with all his films in those paper cases and each film getting the FULL Criterion treatment.

So for example the Shining would have both cuts and the original theatrical cut with the extra scene at the end. A extended cut for Vivian’s behind the scenes movie. Hell even throw in the original score on a separate disc.

See like that kind of thought and love but put into each of his films. It would cost a fortune but I wouldn’t care. It’ll never happen but I can dream right???? :

It's probably only coming next year but I'd be sooo stoked if it came early.

Just finished a 5 hour drive and figured by the time it was over, news would be out. Still nothing!

Yup - Peter Jackson is working on it, and based on some recent interviews with him, it's going to be less an extended edition and more of a completely rethought film that takes advantage of all the unused footage available to him.

Scratches aren't an issue, but let me tell ya, when the sleeves start to pull apart and the discs shift down into the area where glue residue is, it's a pain in the butt to remove that glue residue from the discs. This is what happened with my Universal Monsters Essential Collection after a few years. Fortunately a little Goo Gone was able to rectify it, but still. My Universal Hitchcock set has yet to have the same packaging defect re: pages becoming unglued, but I pull it out every few months to check the discs. (I've since replaced my Universal Monsters Essential Collection with the Complete Collection, and gave away my old set to a friend who I informed of the packaging issue).

He's been working on a video/trailer for all films in the collection for when Spine #1000 was announced.
