Good point! Free movies with every release! If Criterion does ever get around to releasing Lean’s Oliver Twist, they should include Lon Chaney’s Oliver Twist as well with it

Just off the top of my head Criterion alone has many releases... BBS Story Box set, Ride the Whirlwind, Shooting, don’t look now, seconds, the graduate, don’t look back, night of the living dead, cassavetes box, Rosemary’s Baby, medium cool, Altman, Ashby, Kubrick, etc...
Ah, those are all of the big touchstones, I'm talking about lesser known stuff.

The one thing he's said that's not wrong. Love Lynch, Love Twin Peaks, but FWWM was and still is such a badly overacted disaster. No one needed the prequel since we knew everything that happened via the show (and even then, Lynch and Engels flopped on several key facts established by the show).

Here's a list of all their American movies from the 60s and 70s. Of course they aren't all "new hollywood" but plenty are. I recommend the BBS box and Two-Lane Blacktop for a good start
I actually have those, I'm just greedy and want more(you guys talk about a Kubrick set I want a Frank Perry set!) . I would contend that a lot of those types of films aren't exactly lowbrow. Fireball 500 with Fabian is almost like an Antonioni film.

CC and Company(1970), I Love You, Alice B. Toklas!(1968), Wicked, Wicked(1973), Soul Hustler(1974)(I'm of the opinion that Fabian can act!), Sweet Kill(Tab hunter as serial killer, nuff said), The Babymaker, Strawberry Statement, Sweater Girls....ah so many more that don't have in print dvd releases.

As far as artsier stuff goes, Claude Lelouche is a director that doesn't get a lot of respect as far as blu ray distribution. And Claude Chabrol.

Thanks for the list. I just get the idea sometimes that Criterion puts out movies for the people who think Citizen Kane and Vertigo are two of the top three best movies ever made(which I definitely do no think Vertigo is.)

I need to see it again. The whole Laura Palmer mystique was almost ruined for me by the end of it from what I remember. It explained away what made so much of twin peaks intriguing.

My bad. I seem to have misremembered some info posted here in the recent past in the Arbelos thread here. As mentioned above, Luxbox has secured European rights and plans to restore Tarr's catalogue. Any suggestions of a partnership with Arbelos is merely speculation at this point.

Whichever boutique label scores the American rights, let's hope for sooner vs later!

When tweets and e-mails don't get the wheels turning fast enough, tempt fate, I say. Import, and the movie gods shall force upon thee a double dip for thine impatience.

With all this recent Lynch discussion, does anyone think Inland Empire is deserving of a U.S. blu-ray release? I've only seen the movie twice from what I recall, but its a difficult film to appreciate. If anyone wants to weigh in on that movie, I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts.

I find it more weird that Elephant Man lacks a release since it's a far more normie friendly film.

Maybe its because of this blu-ray from 2009 that is both Region A and B: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-E...-Blu-ray/5809/

I guess the demand isn't high enough in the states for this movie, and the 2009 Studiocanal release has held up well? It's still in print too.

Yes, but at the same time it has gone the way of most prestigious oscar films with time. i.e forgotten or semi-forgotten.
