Now that I have the Bergman Collection I no longer need the individual Criterion Blu-Rays of Summer Interlude and Summer with Monika. Anyone interested in a trade? If so, let me now what you have. Thanks.

Figured I post this here since I don't know how many people check the customs thread.

The only thing not 100% accurate is the actual barcode (which is actually of Criterion's original Godzilla release) The barcode will be updated closer to release. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you, you're all set. Imgur's compression really sucks the life and color out of this, so send me a PM for Hi-Res images if you want to use this.

I watched Night of the Hunter last night on The Criterion Channel before it expires at the end of the month.

Man, what a wild movie...

Apparently it was a critical and commercial flop at the time.

I guess I can kind of understand why. There was nothing else quite like it before and there hasn't been anything quite like it since.

Plus,
[Show spoiler]Shelley Winters' character is honestly a bit frustrating the way she succumbs to her husband's whims so easily and unquestioningly.

Maybe looking at it now, but not so much in the 1950s.

Well,
[Show spoiler]it was the fifties. A single mother with two kids didn't have a lot of options.

The movie is actually set in the '30s during the Great Depression, and while I realize things were different for women then, the scene where
[Show spoiler]he makes her feel like a sinner for wanting to have sex with her husband on their wedding night was "off" even for that time period.
Of course, that was the point. The whole movie is a bit off-kilter. That's one of the reasons it's so remarkable.

I mean, to be fair
[Show spoiler]her husband was recently hanged and she was all alone with two young children as a single mother. She was vulnerable; Mitchum’s character, as it was to appear, was there to comfort her in her time of loss. Personally, I don’t find it unrealistic that people will stay in abusive relationships, whether it be emotional or physical (or both), because they might have that fear of not wanting to be alone again.

We do, on the plus side, have an excellent character in Rachel Cooper, with Lillian Gish giving one of the greatest performances of her career (Though... I should say that this is my favorite supporting actress performance ever, besides maybe Kathleen Byron in Black Narcissus, and Gish is a major favorite of mine).

Anyone think Trainspotting might be a LD upgrade soon? It’s been on the channel a couple times now for their archive release

I know there’s a bluray already and I know everyone complains that they want criterion to release films that don’t already have releases, but a nice new 4K restoration would be great. The current bluray is solid but by no means as good as it could be. I’d buy it

Probably not since Lionsgate doesn’t play ball with sublicensing.
