Was watching Three Outlaw Samurai. I dig how the main character isn't persuaded to help the lords simply because their damsel is in distress. The easiest thing in the world is to let a pretty face persuade you. All I can think when he decides to help the peasants instead is: I like this guy.

I am out of surgery and now in my hospital room. Based on what my father relayed to me from his conversation with the doctors while I was waking up in the surgery recovery room, the surgeon removed roughly a foot of my colon, and he (the surgeon) seems to think that the large mass in my colon that necessitated this operation was benign. I will have more information after I get a chance to talk to the surgeon face-to-face tomorrow.

There is a long vertical incision in the middle of my abdomen that goes across my navel, since the doctor needed to perform an open surgery, as opposed to laparoscopic surgery, out of concern for possible scar tissue in the area from my ruptured appendix operation 17 months ago.

I am relieved to report that I do not have an ostomy bag or a JP drain. There are no holes in my abdomen aside from the bandaged incision.

The pain is excruciating right now, even with the medications, but I am so happy that I woke up without an ostomy bag attached to me that I can deal with it.
Good to hear, hopefully your recovery is swift and quick and you take it easy during the recovery and sit back and enjoy some BluRays.

I've been meaning to add this to all of my Criterion sale orders but just never get around to doing so for one reason or another. Will try to add it in the November B&N sale since I'm saving to get Godzilla in October since I don't want to risk having to wait till the second pressing.

Glad to hear you're alive and getting better. Please let us know which Criterions/movies/anything you ended up watching (or will be watching) in your recovery process! Take it easy my good man.

To those wondering what happened to Sixteen Candles, it might now be an Arrow release. Today Mondo announced a new poster for it and they said it was in collaboration with Arrow Video. I guess it's still possible that Arrow will get a UK-only release, but still

Arrow already announced a UK only release. Just gotta wait for Criterion to finish up with their release in the States. Don't wanna let Lee Kline's work go to waste!

[Show spoiler]I also want to prove the dweebs over at CriterionForum wrong about it not happening.

Since Z is out of print is that hope for a bluray or just that it’s now gone from the collection?

I can’t remember but was this an MGM title?

It seems like every b&n sale I pick up The Hit but end up not purchasing it because I’m waiting on an upgrade

There was a 4K restoration at Cannes back in 2015. I imagine it's one of those restorations that Criterion's sitting on for a bit like Haxan, as Z should be one of the titles whose rights sits solely with Costa-Gavras. It's definitely my most-anticipated upgrade.

On a completely similar yet different note, Cure is the title that's Criterion-licensed that I hope for every monthly announcement.

Did Costa-Gavras pull the rights from Criterion? Like, why did The Confession go OOP?

I forgot about Cure!

There were a few Gavras films that got restored! I need them all to get released!

No. Z is still available on the Criterion Channel and available from them on iTunes and Amazon.

Z had a new restoration in 2014 or 2015, so I suspect the DVD is OOP in advance of them releasing a Blu-ray and new DVD edition.

I don't think anyone ever got to the bottom of why The Confession went OOP.

Edited to add: I just checked iTunes and The Confession is available from Paramount. So, hopefully Criterion can license it from them and rerelease it.

Okay good. The Confession is an odd one. It just went OOP without much advance warning at all.

Didn't the production company behind The Confession get bought by StudioCanal or something?

Speaking of Japanese cinema in general, I must mention once more it'd be amazing if Criterion grabbed any of Takeshi Murakami's movies. Most notably Almost Transparent Blue. It got a VHS and soundtrack released for it back in the day but that's it. There's a VHS rip out there but it isn't subtitled unfortunately.

So sorry about the pain, but I'm glad to hear that all went well. Enjoy some good films and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

From what I understood, it wasn't the movie they lost the rights to, but some of the special features.
