As soon as I saw it I guessed Fail Safe. If that is it, I am very proud of myself haha.

Let's hope so. Brilliant and terrifying film.

The Clooney "live" television version from 2000 would make a great companion feature if Criterion can get the rights.

I just put in a blind purchase for "Until the End of the World" with the target sale. It was weird how they only offered the DVD for "Polyester"

The Blu for Polyester is out of stock on their site, which is beyond frustrating cause that's all I want! haha.

Really feel like Criterion hasn't been releasing a lot of Japanese films lately and I need my Samurai fix in HD. Not to mention I find it strange that Dreams was the last Kurosawa film to be released 3 years ago.

Am I wrong here? I mean I appreciate the Mizoguchi films and would definitely like to see more of those plus the Ozu films, but where's Stray Dog, Drunken Angel, Red Beard, The Bad Sleep Well etc. I know Red beard had a restoration, as it ran the film circuit afterwards and Mosfilm restored Dersu Uzala. Is this another case of Studio canal owning the rights and wanting too high a price for rights?

and completely out of left field here, but who in the world has the rights to Arsenic and Old Lace WB? I'm asking the HD gods to please hear my cries!
So many good suggestions there. I've been waiting for more Hideo Gosha for years, but Goykin and Hunter in the Dark would be my most wanted.

I'm kind of glad I didn't see it when it was first released since it came out just a couple of years after the Cuban Missile Crisis. I caught it several years later on tv and it really did a number on me.

I can understand that. I had a similar reaction. I saw it first on British television in the early 80's, probably when I was 13 or 14. Although glasnost and perestroika were just around the corner, there was still plenty of cold war paranoia and fear; I remember we got government pamphlets on how to try and survive nuclear war through the letter box.

I did a few Duck and Covers back in the early '60s when things really got dicey. I still remember how grim my mom and dad looked when it seemed like there was a real possibility of a nuclear war.
Fail Safe is a real nail biter from the get go and never lets up. Great performances from everyone. I think my favorite is from Larry Hagman who literally plays opposite Henry Fonda and surprised the heck out of me since all I knew him for was I Dream of Jeannie.

You simpletons looked at the clue, and immediately thought Fail Safe. But that's of course way too obvious. The clue is a safe, which should signal to you buffoons that the clue itself is cryptic.

Therefore using my magnificent brain, I've deduced it for all of you.

Haha, I actually thought about making every letter a different director instead. I was thinking of names, and had Fellini, Ozu, and Kuroswa so far, but decided to just make it about A.K..
