Sorry, maybe I misread the post -- I thought the loyalty mentioned was the Purchase GC .

In the past Criterion has given $10 for signing up to their Facebook page and signing up to consider Criterion Channel and a couple other small things so maybe one of those rewards. I forget what all those were called

They all work like Gift Certificates or even Amazon GC -- load the code in the system and it adds $$$ to your account so when you check out, it should automatically be there. I know with my Criterion channel Certificate and the old FB rewards, I loaded the code into my account immediately and it was there months later when I made an order as a "Credit." It's not like stacking Discount Codes or % Off Offers other places.

I think that last one may have been an error. These are just smallish orders, to perhaps minimize some of the damage that seems to occur even moreso with bigger orders (and the bigger/heavier shipping boxes that go along with them). I return most dented and/or scraped up and/or broken items, buy them in store at b&n sales instead later on. Dunno, don't wanna know, on that last question.

Damn, lol. I need to just step away from our discussion here until tomorrow! I look at what everybody is getting, and when I see a movie I hadn’t considered, for whatever reason, I can almost feel my wallet getting lighter.
Not buying "Local Hero" this time but one of my motivation to buy that is the music composer...Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) is one of my all time favorite. I have the excerpts of the soundtrack in his "Screenplaying" compilation (which also includes excerpts from "The Princess Bride"), but like to watch the movie for the soundtrack.

1984 is quite tempting, even though I have the OOP Twilight Time issue. That’s a film I’m more than happy to double dip on, even if doing so only for the extras.

I’d read 1984 and Animal Farm back in high school, but I don’t think I fully grasped the gravity of everything Orwell was putting forth until I saw the cinematic adaptation. It’s the performance that made me such a huge John Hurt fan. I strongly believe he’s one of the great dramatic actors of the Twentieth Century, and Orwell’s frightening cautionary tale was the ideal vehicle for him.

I hope this release by Criterion inspires some people to go back and explore his body of work. And, I hope brisk sales might further motivate Criterion to get ahold of The Elephant Man.

Mark is an amazing guitarist, and a fine composer. A few weeks ago, I pulled out my Live Aid DVD box, and one of sets I watched was that of the Dire Straits. I’ve tried, in the past, to pick up Sultans of Swing, but I just can’t finger pick leads on an electric like he can. He makes me crazy, lol.

By the way, how cool was it seeing Sting out there with them for Money For Nothing? I think every kid in my neighborhood had Brothers in Arms.

It was briefly on The Criterion Channel a few months ago, for whatever that's worth.

Question, what movie is that picture from that's at the top of the new releases page on the criterion site?

I made a relatively small order, as I was planning to not spend too much this week. Still, I had to take advantage of the sale, right?

I got an upgrade (from DVD) I've been wanting for a long time now, a classic that I've only ever seen the remake of, and something I wasn't familiar with at all until today, pictured below in that order.

Wanted to order more, but still probably ordered too much:

BRD Trilogy
Magnificent Obsession
Haxan
Cluny Brown
Polyester
Local Hero
The Circus

Also used my $10 Criterion Channel coupon.

Keeping it light this sale. Imma get:
  • The Circus (wasn't enthused about this before, but I want to fill in my Chaplin collection and give the film another shot)
  • Cluny Brown (a blind-buy, the preview clip looked good and the message of the film really speaks to me)
  • Polyester (yes, I am one of the crazy people who will blind-buy a John Waters film)
  • Samurai Rebellion (on DVD, is a blind-buy, heard good things though)

I was in a two+ hour meeting, and then either the site was slow or our office Internet was, but I finally got in my quick order for "The Circus" and "Cluny Brown", plus "Safety Last" to boost the shipping. When I have some time this evening, I'm planning to order most/all of the Eclipse DVD sets that I want, that was my main target for this sale, but they're not particularly time-sensitive, whereas I definitely wanted to get those two blus while supplies lasted.

Absolutely love Cluny Brown. Really underviewed movie, and Jennifer Jones gives a great performance.
