A perfect 10.
Wow, perfect timing with this review, Nitin. I just blind bought it the other day used for $16 shipped and was hoping I made the right decision. Your review just clinches it as I know you and I have very similar tastes in film. Can't wait to watch it now. Thanks, my friend.

If you really want to see it happen, I would say it wouldn't hurt to contact them to let them know there is demand and it might be worth it for Criterion to pay Netflix whatever is needed to get this out there.

I sent them an e-mail a few days ago, and the more the merrier.

Pretty good visuals, though the storytelling at times wasn't so intriguing (for a few of the fans). Not an easy film to make no doubt. The show was sold out and I ended up meeting some serious Depeche Mode fans while waiting in line.
I saw it too as I was in town the next day for a Tim Minchin gig. Loved the guy who recreated the Enjoy the Silence video & those two siblings who did DM songs as kids

I too came across some serious DM fans but in a different way & kind: I posted about the film on the FB group Basildon Memories - where the band are from & where I went to school. I said what a prick Gahan has turned into, like bono levels. And asked what memories you had of the boys

It did not go down well. Talk about defensive & protecting your fellow townsfolk

Being younger than most here, the only film I saw at theaters among that list was at a drive-in one at that was Armageddon as part of a double feature. I believe the opening feature was Mulan. All I remember is I wanted to see that second film being an Aerosmith fan growing up and well they were one of the bands we listed a lot to in our household. For the large part being a resident of the essence of small town America we don't see too many films in the theaters around here that end up in the Criterion Collection. We get the big films and then your lucky if you get an arthouse film. Then there's the fact, I'm not a huge fan of the theater and prefer the comfort of old home.

Thelma Schonmaker should win every editing award this year for her work on this, especially after the catastrophic win of Bohemian Rhapsody last year at the oscars.

I also found this clip on an interview she did at the NFT in London in 1972, which is fantastic!

I don’t know. They’re all tough broads, but in a bar fight, I’m putting my money on Crawford.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but in this new interview with Scorsese he mentions that his 1974 doc "Italianamerican" is being released by Criterion. Hopefully it will also include his "American Boy: A Profile Of Steven Prince." These are two of his best films and it's about time they got a wider release!

The whole interview is worth watching. Scroll to 23:07 for his comments on "Italianamerican."

I've always enjoyed seeing films on the big screen. I don't what to use the term "life-changing" but seeing archival 35mm of prints (they were my first 35mm showings in years) of "Blue Velvet" and "Medium Cool" just enhanced my enjoyment and love for both films.

I just got out of seeing "The Irishman" and her editing was great as always. "Bohemian Rhapsody" winning is just dreadful.

Probably should mention that I agree that there's something special about seeing films on a big screen, but even so it's that I'm not a huge fan of the theater for personal reasons.

Oh, interesting. I liked the DM fan from Romania who went to those mountains to dress up like Dave in the Enjoy the Silence music video. People all laughed out loud in the theater during that sequence.

When you say Gahan turned into a prick and now compare him to Bono, I might have to disagree here. I used to think Bono was a pompous ass, but the older I get, the less I feel that way. Maybe I'm biased because I've had this U2 fan site of mine online for almost 23 years now (https://www.u2station.com/), and I've talked/met so many U2 fans over the years, and then I myself was interviewed on video for a U2 fan documentary by a super fan from Hawaii (his movie is at: http://www.dreamoutloudfilm.com), that I realized I was more immature as a youth to think that Bono is a jerk. He's really a very generous guy apparently from talking to so many U2 fans. Now, David Gahan from Depeche Mode I'm not so sure about it. I love his voice but man, the live performance of him is too overdramatic. He's dancing around shaking his ass and sticking his tongue out and being all "Mick Jagger"ish strutting on stage. I mean, I know he's a very theatrical performer, but sometimes I just want to hear the songs the way they originally were sung. I'd for sure be interested in talking to you more about Depeche Mode though.

About 1/4 of the 70+ films on my DVR, most from TCM, are selections with Bette or Barbara Stanwyck. For my money, those two ladies were the most versatile actresses of the classic film era.

I’m finishing Watch on the Rhine right now. Real good movie, but I keep hoping a Nazi, or a feral dog, would come and steal away her boy Bodo. The actor Eric Roberts gives one of the most irritating child performances I’ve ever had to sit through. They’re trying so hard to make the little shit appear precocious; instead, listening to him talk is like hearing fingernails being dragged down a chalkboard.

As much as I like The Sword of Doom, I find the ending to be very unsatisfying.

I know what you mean but I do think it works pretty well thematically if not narratively.

HA! I don't own that one -- actually, why I don't own it is a good question, but has nothing to do with this thread. I guess investigation is needed.

But yes, really, I do like them.

I wrote this in another thread the other day, but I'm not re-typing all of this. Copy/Paste:

I very rarely make it to the theater. These days, once you add in Uber, tickets, stuff to eat, a couple beers ... it's cheaper to buy the Blu-ray or 4K, anyways.

But it's not cost that really influences me anyways. It's ease. It's the fact that I can sit there on my couch, not even bother getting dressed, I can answer my phone, I can go to the bathroom and miss nothing -- ALL of that, and more. Not to mention the fact that I don't have to worry about some stranger bothering me, using the iPhone, talking to a friend, eating loudly, whatever.

The only times I bother with the whole "Go to the theater," experience is if it's something I really, really feel I need to see in the great theater I usually go to, on a big screen, Dolby, IMAX, whatever. If it's something like Avengers: Endgame or Blade Runner 2049 or Frozen II -- something like that, then I will make the effort to go see it. Though I almost always see 2 (or 3) films if I'm going to make the effort. In fact, I was supposed to see both Charlie's Angels and Frozen II yesterday, had tickets already, but woke up SO sick that there was no way it was going to happen. But there is no way I am going to miss Frozen II on the big screen with a great sound system. But it has to be something like that to get me off the couch.
