I try to go to the theater once a month. There is a new chain in the area called Icon Theaters and they have a VIP section which I'm willing to pay the extra price and so far it's normally people who are willing to spend extra so it less likely they will be talking or going on their phones. Also it has a full bar and restaurant so it's also really nice overall, so I make it an event when I go. Just going to the theater is almost as exciting as watching the film itself.

Except in the real world that scene would end with George getting beat up or arrested.

...it’s not worth the risk.

Is there a rule anymore about not taking food/beverages into cinemas?

Besides, they are ripping people of & frankly taking the piss with their food, be it the prices or what they actually serve
I don't understand your comparism to the golf course. I wouldn't talk loudly in a library just out of respect to others but that still does not compare with food & cinemas

And I always take my rubbish out with me, be it a drink container, food paper bager container(never crisp bag because crisps in cinema is just wrong, popcorn even worse) just because it's the right thing to do, polite & gives less work for the employees to do

But bravo to you for sticking to your morals

I just finished watching Local Hero.

I thought it was pretty good, but didn’t really shove me onto the bed with my legs up in the air.

The ending was...I don’t know...whatever.

Heartbreakingly melancholy?

Don’t mean to break your balls, but I love the end of that film!

I like the ending of a film to grab me by the throat and squeeze a little.

Maybe stick a burning candle in my ass.

...let me know who’s in charge.

But that's what Local Hero is all about! It's a light movie filled with cute little wit from Burt Lancaster, adorable old Scottish red phone booths, and the majestic Aurora Borealis.

If you want some S&M action, just watch The Night Porter.

The light was so bright, it blinded us at times. My friend Marc asked him to please "shut your phone off". The guy responded back: "Shut the f*ck up man". My friend again asked him: "Sir, can you please shut your phone, we're trying to watch a movie for godsakes!" The guy then stood up and turned to us and said "F*ck you man!" Then about 5 or 6 other people in the theater (there were only about 5 or 6 others luckily there) all said: "Hey, can you guys be quiet!?" The guy bolted out of the theater and then my friend and I started freaking out thinking he was going to come back and enter with a gun and shoot us to shreds! About 5 min. later the guy returned, and I totally expected to get shot. I was like "okay, my life is about to come to an end all because of some f*cking meathead who couldn't shut his phone off!" He came right up to us and said out loud: "Hey, I'm sorry for disturbing you". Holy f#%*, my life was spared!

Anyway, my friend Marc is a bit of a hothead himself and isn't afraid to get into fights/arguments with strangers (unlike me)! So, we were lucky the guy didn't snap and pulverize us!
Oh man, I used to have a terrible temper and was such a hothead with a short fuse all too ready for lighting.

Watching the Bond film LICENCE TO KILL one night a whole group of people came in 30 minutes into it, sat a few rows behind me and were laughing and talking as loud as they could, disrupting the entire theater. I got up and went over to their row and told them all to shut the eff up. One guy stood up and said, threateningly, "What did you say?" I told him once again to shut the eff up and that I was an off duty cop and if he started anything with me I'd have his ass in County before the next scene in the movie was over. He backed down and the whole group stayed quiet for the rest of the movie. Good thing he didn't know I wasn't a cop.

But the worst time was at the theater at UCLA, of all places, on opening night of a Murnau fest, of all things. The movie was FAUST and this guy sitting behind me was talking a mile a minute before the movie started, which is his right, but once the movie started he began to laugh throughout the entire film. Murnau's FAUST is hardly a comedy so after awhile I get really angry, turned and told him to shut up. He gave me the finger so I got up, pulled him out of his seat and decked him. He fell over and said, "Ok, man, I'll be quiet. Sorry." But I felt terrible so I just left the theater and I've regretted the incident ever since.

As Clint says in UNFORGIVEN, "I'm not like that anymore." I've definitely mellowed in my old age and good thing too because if I tried something like that nowadays, I shudder to think what would happen. As my buddy Ray Jackson posted above, it's way too risky. I'll watch my superb Blu of FAUST at home, thank you very much.

[Show spoiler] Though it wasn't planned and I was let down on my first viewing. In subsequent viewing I now feel it is the perfect ending for this film.

The main character throughout tries to free himself of his destiny. Where the film portrays him as the reluctant sword of a higher power. Unknowingly delivering out justice. Killing bad people and answering to those calling for Buddha to end their time on earth. Meanwhile he cowers in the face of the divine and good like Mifune's character.

I also find it fitting the character that is trained to defeat him never gets a chance. Just like in real life, unlike the movies, not everything lines up perfectly and strands are left dangling.

When the main character finally rebels at the end. Thrown into a violent rage against his predetermined destiny that forces his hand. The film comes to an abrupt ending at his death. The last moment of consciousness freeze framed in his mind and on film for a split second. The fact that fate itself stepped in to make this the ending of a film, that was suppose to be a trilogy, appears to be the universe or even something higher fulfilling the destiny of this movie as a stand alone masterpiece IMO. What could be more fitting.

When I was in India earlier this year, I saw a movie at the local multiplex. That was quite a different experience. At the beginning of the film, the audience stands for the national anthem. There was an intermission for a 2 1/2 hour movie. Samosas were sold at the concession stands and there were constant conversations among audience members. Oh, and babies, too.

We found a theater that had English subs, so I had to read everything anyway. in other words, the chatter didn't preclude me from understanding / hearing.

Was a lot of fun, actually.

If I've found it, is there a code book that tells me how all these random mutterings on the past few pages have anything at all to do with the Criterion Collection?

Sometimes things get slow around here between announcements. So we digress. Feel free to post something that is more on topic.

I see some Local Hero talk...some mention of The Sword of Doom, even The Night Porter...it's hard to stay on topic 100% of the time in a forum of film lovers in between announcements and releases.
But that's my 2 cents, which isn't much these days, I mean have you seen ticket prices?

Wow, what a nice, friendly way to introduce yourself to the site and this thread. You'll fit in very well here. What makes me think you might be a recently banned member coming back to troll yourself to personal bliss? Anyway, welcome.

By the way, where is your great on topic contribution for the subject?
