Appreciate all the responses on Jim Jarmusch. Thanks!
Looks like I'm not starting with one of his more acclaimed efforts - but as it's on the way from the UK and will be the only title of his I have, it will be the first anyway. ![]() I'm interested in style, atmosphere, tone, mood, and even some "meandering" (thanks, ravenus) - so it sounds like there should be things for me to enjoy in his filmography. I'll see how I get on with The Limits of Control, and take it from there. ![]() |

Greatest month in quite a while for me.
I'm a bit disappointed that Pixote didn't get a standalone release, but being part of a great boxset is certainly better than no release at all. Beau travail is an old wishlist item, and I'm definitely in for the Rosi. Hats off to Criterion. |

I would import if the Blu-ray was Region Free. But instead, most of the extras are on the Blu-ray and to pay a ridiculous amount of money just for a 4K just doesn't suit me well. Most 4Ks cost $20 and rarely any that are above that price unless if they come with multiple movies like Cornetto Trilogy or if they are done by a smaller company like Blue Undergound which at least costs about $40 which is only a $10 difference from the original price. I didn't pull the trigger on the Elephant Man 4K and I won't since the only thing that I can play is the 4K Blu-ray disc that doesn't include all the supplements. I'm not convinced by packaging or the booklet though.

I'll likely pick up the Lynch. A brilliant film, but I find it difficult and emotional viewing. It's been a long time, so I'd like to revisit it.
I did not pick up the Arrow Region B releases of the Dassin titles - which interestingly used masters produced by Criterion (although no US BD releases). I see both of the upcoming Criterion are new 4K restorations by an outside entity. |

Naked City is going to look sick with the 4K redo! Long overdue.
Brute Force is another welcome upgrade, but wonderful surprises with Beau Travail and Christ Stopped at Eboli! Elephant Man isn't really that exciting after Studio Canal's stellar UHD release, but also kind of strange that CC would decide to use literally the same cover art as SC? |

Little late to the Jarmusch talk, but my rankings of his non-documentary films would be...
Essential Jarmusch: Down by Law Mystery Train Stranger than Paradise Night on Earth Paterson Dead Man Ghost Dog Broken Flowers Lower-tier Jarmusch, but still good: Coffee and Cigarettes The Dead Don't Die Limits of Control Only Lovers Left Alive Permanent Vacation |

And yes, fans had been asking Criterion to release The Elephant Man since they started releasing blu-rays and it would've sold more copies, even without a 4K restoration because, at this point, people who have a UHD player will go for that instead. It is only being released now because the restoration was done and available to license. It wouldn't surprise me if they released Crash now that a 4K release is available in region B territories.
