My "Come and See" blu ray from Criterion arrives tomorrow!

I just watched "The Painted Bird", which is a cinematic cousin to "Come and See".

I may watch "Come and See" and do a rewatch on "The Painted Bird" this week.

The same actor even appears in both films, Alexei Kravchenko.

It's interesting to see how often "The Painted Bird" makes references to other films.

It would actually make a nice Criterion title, too.

Does Criterion usually release something horror related in October? I honestly can't remember the last time they have done so.

I would love for them to finally release Onibaba on Blu-ray and if they have Dawn of the Dead (They probably don't) I don't think they would release it in October since Second Sight is releasing theirs.

EDIT: Even more than Onibaba, I hope they finally release Cure (1997). Fantastic film that they have had the rights to for a very long time.

Oh, Peeping Tom would be great.

I could see Equinox getting upgraded.

Kind of. The only one that stood out in my memory was Rosemary's Baby on Oct 30th and that was because the Barnes and Noble sale started on Nov 1 that year and I *had* to have it for Halloween

But there were more. Looking through the release calendar here...

Vampyr - 2017

The Del Torro Trilogy - 2016

Kwaidan
The Brood - 2016

The Innocents - (late Sept) 2015

The Uninvited
Eyes Without a Face
I Married a Witch - 2013

Rosemary's Baby - 2012

Kuroneko - 2011

House - 2010

But yeah, it doesn't seem like there have been any obvious Halloween releases for a couple years.

If they have one this year put me down for Arsenic and Old Lace, please.

I would count Godzilla as Halloween for last year. And sisters the year before.

How about a Criterion edition of Deep Throat? That was definitely a seminal work in the history of film.
A well chosen set of extras would put the film in its proper historical context.
Ron Jeremy could participate in a commentary track from jail.

Maybe it could be presented in Feel-A-Round.

What was disappointing was the fact that they got the rights but ended up only releasing the first four films of the series on DVD and not the rest.

It would be the first film in the collection where both definitions of that word could apply.

In a couple of years? They just release the Godzilla box set and a Haxan upgrade last year. Every year (it seems like for many years) they've put out an upgrade/and or new horror related title for October.

An upgrade of The Equinox might fill Criterion's October "scary movie" release tradition.

Criterion released Salo on Blu, and that flick makes Dawn of the Dead look like Mary Poppins.

The Lure was also released in 2017, alongside with Twin Peaks FWWM. They released Sisters in 2018, and then releases Haxan in 2019.

Pretty safe to say that we can expect at least 1 horror title being announced for October.

Wasn't it rumored that they had the rights to Altered States some time ago? I could see that as an October release.
