He was great. But everyone bites his style: Joe Rogan, Ricky Gervais, Bill Maher, Bill Burr, Louis CK, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. He gave birth to all of them, but the younger generation doesn’t know or care

Totally agreed! Hicks still kills them all, too.

I'm expecting the last few posts to be deleted anyway. Happens all the time.

But, speaking as a minority, I find a lot of the ways woke culture pressures groups into being more inclusive aggressive and tiring.

Bill Hicks is my favorite stand up behind Pryor and Carlin. I was listening to "Rant in E-Minor" yesterday while I mowed my lawn. Absolute legend!

Please explain how (accurately) noticing the overwhelming prevalence of one demographic's viewpoint is in any way 'bigotry' against that demographic.

No. I’ve said my bit. Everybody who sees my comments knows how I feel. No point in going round in circles. Plus I’d rather talk about films.

And people got mad in the Warner Archive for people posting wish lists. Things can always get worse.

Accurately? How so? I could make a case another demographic's viewpoint is getting more publicity in the media than an 'old white man's. And by the definition of what 'Woke' culture is, shouldn't the so called 'old white man's' viewpoint be just as accepted as other groups of people's viewpoints as well?

I'll never understand why people get upset about other's posting wishlists. If you don't want to see what others want, then just don't read it. I missed out on that, but I can think of a couple Warner titles that I'd like to see WAC release.

It's fun watching people embarrass themselves while feeling proud of what they're saying, like they're 'taking a stand'.

You can make whatever case you want, but you'd be wrong.

And the statement you quoted only said that 'old white men's' viewpoints are more prevalent, not that there is anything inherently wrong with someone of that demographic having a viewpoint, so there is zero bigotry on display. The old and the white and the male are, of course, welcome to continue contributing to our various national dialogues, but their voice will not be the only one considered.

Finally, word to the wise - few if any self-identify as "woke." It is easier to rail against a scary buzzword than the actual issues in many cases, and "woke" is simply the new "SJW" or "PC." I certainly know what you're talking about when you say the word, but I've never once thought of any ideal I hold within the framework of it being "woke" or not, so any attempt to box in my argument with a term that your side has spent the majority of the effort defining is pointless. No one is ever going to go "whoa you're right, that IS inconsistent with wokeness!" because "wokeness" is only an actual definable ideology in your imagination.

I think anyone that's interested in the future direction of the collection might be interested in checking out the guy that took over as curatorial director in December https://www.ashleyclark.net/about
Quote:
Ashley was the programmer of Black Star (BFI Southbank, Oct-Dec 2016; TIFF, Nov-Dec 2017), a major film season dedicated to exploring the range, versatility and power of Black actors, and co-programmer of Making Faces on Film: a Collaboration with BFI Black Star (MoMA, April 2017), a complementary New York edition. In 2018, Ashley organized the retrospective Black Audio Film Collective, 1980s-1990s for True/False Film Festival’s Neither/Nor sidebar in Feb/Mar 2018, and wrote a corresponding 52-page monograph. He has programmed and hosted further events and screenings at venues including BFI Southbank, Light Industry, and Spectacle Theater.
He went to university here in Brighton, England and it's fair to say we're in the running for the most liberal city in the country (known for gay culture, only Green MP in the country, one of the lowest votes for Brexit, lots of protest marches etc.) and that's definitely something the students are attracted to the city for and a big influence in - it's a small city and as much as 15% of the city's population are students at the two universities. He also mentioned on twitter that Deep Cover was a favourite of his so that'll be why it has made the collection, although he's only been the curatorial director since December he's been working with Criterion a was a producer the Do the Right Thing and Bamboozled releases.

You also might be interested with this interview with the Channel's curatorial director Penelope Bartlett, back from the launch

And then we're thinking about it in terms of what do we want to see? What stories do we want to tell? We're, of course, looking back now a little bit on film history and saying, "Who are the people who maybe weren't celebrated in the way that they could've been?" You know, women, people of color. We really want to go back and find those hidden figures and really diversify the film history that we're presenting as well. Because it's been such a white male space for so long and we really want to change that. So we think about that a lot when we're programming.
You, of course, don't have to agree with their opinions but I think it's fair to expect we'll be getting more movies from filmmakers we may be less familiar with.

Sadly you're probably right that few people continue to self identify as it, but I think plenty of people would still say 'yeah I am so what?' if it was thrown at them as an insult. This is a nice little potted history of the term https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-b1790787.html and how it has been twisted.
I see it a lot like SJW, which I've had thrown at me many a time, and similarly I'm like 'yeah, and that's bad is it?' - until recently I was CEO at a very well known UK non profit that literally exists to fight for social justice so it has always been a weird 'insult' to me!

I'm hoping Le Circle Rouge comes back in the collection today. I've been patiently trying to pick up the OOP titles at decent prices and ignoring that assuming it's coming back as Army of Shadows did. I'm down to the that and The Confession (which nearly never comes up for sale on eBay in the UK let alone at a good price) so that'd make me happy.

I would be pleased to see an announcement for a stand-alone release of Hour of the Wolf today.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being and The Seventh Continent would also be very nice.
