I'm planning on getting them as they come. I was way too late in hearing about them on DVD (would have been too young to start collection early on anyway) so this is my chance to try and keep pace and have the entire collection.

they all have some level of value. I didn't love The Man Who Fell To Earth (sorry if the titles wrong but I'm 99% sure it's right) but there is definitely an unique and worthwhile experience to be had in watching it.

I was pissed to see an ad for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button yesterday that stated it was available on DVD and Blu-ray but made NO mention of Criterion and only used the single-disc art. I can only hope that was at Criterion's request...

Also, completely unrelated but does anyone know what to make of this image?:

It was on the IMDb page here. Fan art, maybe? Including a quotation on the front isn't like Criterion, is it?

Yeah, I'm sure it's just fan-created artwork. Between CriterionForum.org & The Auteurs' Forum, there's plenty of fan-created artwork for fake Criterion releases. Just today I was going through the thread over on The Auteurs' site & it's quite funny and interesting to see what some of the users come up with for Criterion covers. There was even a cover created for the Nickelodeon film, "Good Burger."

The official artwork for "Last Year At Marienbad" has been up on Criterion's site since they first announced it.

I know, I was reading the hate for it in the title's thread:

I do wish they would have chosen a different cover.

I'll be happy to avoid that cover abortion on my wall unit shelf.
Considering that it's in the spirit of the title card (according to the Beaver comparison of the Optimum R2 DVD and the OOP Fox Lorber), I think that last one was a bit harsh.

Which of course will be a Day-1 purchase on Blu-ray WHEN Criterion gets the rights, and releases it

I posted in the Red Shoes thread but the bottom paragraph could be of interest in this thread:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=98295

Variety:

Cannes sports 'Shoes,' honors Losey

Classics chock-full of arthouse favorites

PARIS — The Cannes Film Festival's sixth annual Classics program was unveiled Tuesday afternoon in Paris. Under the direction of honorary president Martin Scorsese, the repertory lineup features more than 20 restored or newly printed world cinema classics, including two new docus about legendary European filmmakers.

Toplining the program is a restored print of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's 1948 Technicolor ballet masterpiece, "The Red Shoes." A favorite of Scorsese's, the film will be presented by the helmer and his long-time editing partner and Powell's widow Thelma Schoonmaker.

The other main feature is a "recomposed" version of French director Henri-Georges Clouzot's unfinished 1964 drama "To Hell," assembled by archivist Serge Bromberg. Romy Schneider starrer, about an ill-fated couple's psychotic relationship, was apparently halted due to Clouzot's own mental troubles during shooting.

The World Cinema Foundation, created in 2007 to help developing countries promote their cinematic heritage, will present three works in the program, including an unreleased long version of recently deceased Taiwanese helmer Edward Yang's seldom screened "A Brighter Summer Day."

Two docus about legendary New Wave filmmakers Francois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard, and Italian Palme d'Or winner Pietro Germi, will also be preemed at the fest.

The extensive retrospective is rounded out by a celebration of helmer Joseph Losey's 100th birthday -- including screenings of the Harold Pinter scripted/Dirk Bogarde starrer "Accident," and the director's version of Mozart's "Don Giovanni" — and a program of 11 restored classics, including works by Godard, Antonioni, Visconti and Tati, and the rarely screened 1971 Australian Outback thriller "Wake in Fright."

CANNES CLASSICS TRIBUTES
"The Red Shoes," U.K. (1948), Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger
Restored by the UCLA Film & Television Archive, presented by Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker
"To Hell (and Back) — Memories of Henri-George Clouzot," France (1964, 2009), Henri-Georges Clouzot, Serge Bromberg

"A Brighter Summer Day," Taiwan (1991), Edward Yang — unreleased long version
"Al-Momia," Egypt (1969), Shadi Abdel Salam
"Redes," Mexico (1936), Emilio Gomez Muriel, Fred Zinnemann
The Bergman Foundation will also present "Images From the Playground," (29', Sweden), a restoration by director Stig Borkman of Ingmar Bergman's "home movies" shot during the making of his films. The film received funding from the World Cinema Foundation.
JOSEPH LOSEY CENTENARY
"Accident," U.K. (1967), Joseph Losey — restored by the BFI National Film Archive and StudioCanal
"Don Giovanni," Italy (1979), Joseph Losey — new print screened in the Cinema on the Beach series

So I'm here going though all of the promo material listed for the big Vote on Amazon.com and I really can't make my mind up. I know I'm a little late to the party on this one, but sheesh, eveything I watch on here sways me in another direction.

I think I'm going with my gut instinct and voting for Kwaidan.

Shame we can't write in "Good Burger". Man, I've been waiting for that Criterion for years...almost as long as "Dude, where's my car"

Was a rough month! Here's the Wife's M's-Day gift, (ahhh the collateral damage of this hobby!) with the current titles I have in my possession..... Might have to break down and just Pre-Order "Repulsion" today

You tease now, but then you are going to tell me that Criterion lost the rights to L'avventura and its only coming out Region B locked without subtitles.

I would LOVE to see this one get announced soon.

Not really, Sir!

Fellini, Antonioni and Tarkovsky are three directors I would love to see treated properly on Blu-ray as soon as possible. The news about the screenings of these newly restored prints in Cannes gives me hope (Bunuel and Godard releases are already happening in Region-B).

L'eclisse, L'avventura and La Notte are very special films for me.

What is that, Beta Man? Is that a tiara? Is your wife a princess? Of course, she is! Who am I kidding?

Seriously, though, is that some sort of crystal sculpture?

no... I just use the "Collection" feature on this site to keep track of the Criterion titles I own..... The other ones are just lumped in with the DVDs.

Hello. I am new to this thread, however, I have been reading it since the beginning. I currently own all Criterion Blu-rays except for Wages of Fear and The Last Metro and have all currently announced Criterion Blu-rays pre-ordered from Amazon via my Gold Box.

I just have a quick question, does anyone know when each month Criterion announces new Blu-ray pre-orders? The suspense kills me!

Thanks in advance!

I think it's around the middle of each month... on Monday or Tuesdays.... so more than likely, A week from today (or a week and a day) and they'll be letting us know the next title(s)

Sorry, I've scanned the forum here and I haven't found an answer to my question.

It looks like Button has a standard Blu-ray case with a sleeve rather than the traditional Blu-ray case. Is it true then that there is no folding case for this title? Any word on the packaging for the Canadian release?
