Which existing spines do you think need to be upgraded most?

Taking a cursory look at the collection, a few spines that standout for me:

-Kurosawa: Stray Dog, Drunken Angel, Red Beard
-Onibaba
-The Adventures of Antoine Doinel
-Ozu: Early Summer, A Story of Floating Weeds, etc
-The Spirit of the Beehive
-Summertime
-Spellbound
-The Tales of Hoffmann
-The Thief of Bagdad
-Thieves' Highway
-Youth of the Beast
-Z
Trouble In Paradise is what I want most. I bought Universal's Spanish release but the master is at least a decade old. I imagine Criterion would use the recent restoration which should look marvelous.

At this point, I’d be very cool if they accelerated the upgrades more even if it meant more than four or five releases per month. There’s a lot of cool stuff that is still lingering and would look beautiful in HD.

Titles here, also the Lean Dickens films, the Dreyer box, Trouble in Paradise, the Milos Foreman films and Closely Watched Trains, Shop on Main Street, that Samurai box set, the Eisenstein box, so much Kurosawa (I think this is why I’m holding on hope to the dream Kurosawa box cause it would be such an upgrade party).

Of the existing, top of my list would be -

The Horse's Mouth
The Spirit of the Beehive
Onibaba
Stray Dog
Wise Blood
Knife in the Water
Hobson's Choice
The Ruling Class
Bad Timing
Secret Honor
Great Expectations
The Importance of Being Earnest

From the OOP, I'd top it with:

The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Le cercle rouge
The Killer & Hard Boiled
Z
The Long Good Friday
Coup de torchon

Besides the Kurosawa, and Ozu titles, I'd say these for me:

- Spirit of the Beehive
- The Shop on Main Street
- The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
- Hobson's Choice
- Kicking and Screaming
- Onibaba
- Salvatore Giuliano
-Summertime
- When a Woman Ascents the Stairs

OOP titles that they could hopefully get back:

- The Complete Mr. Arkadin
- Z
- The Killer / Hard Boiled

Ah I forgot about Mabuse! That’s another one I get amped for a possible upgrade when October rolls around!

Would love for new editions of the John Woo films.

My answer would have been The Bank Dick but Kino Lorber will be releasing it sometime later this year.

Spirit of the Beehive was mentioned many times, that and Pandora's Box remain my top two choices.

Has there been any word on if The Testament of Dr. Mabuse is planned on getting an upgrade? I'm tempted to buy it during Eureka's current Lang sale, but would wait for a CC release.

Ashley Clark made this his staff pick on the channel this month, I think they’ve got the rights back along with Mona Lisa and we’ll be seeing a disc soon.

Thanks for this. I would need English subs, and neither the Spanish or Italian have them.

With the B&N sale confirmed for next week, it's time to start posting those lists...

While I've favoured the Flash Sales for the past couple of years, I still pick up two or three every B&N event. This time around I'm looking to get:

Breathless
Chronicle of a Summer

How would anyone feel if Criterion decreased the amount of new releases (for a year, maybe more) to allow for more Blu upgrades (perhaps a 50/50 ratio)?

I dunno, with the amount of stuff CC has that take forever to be released in the current model I'd rather more over fewer. I'm not talking Kino numbers, but I wouldn't say no to a pick-me-up.
