It's really odd cause if you check the other cases such as the single disc Scanavo and 2-disc Scanavo cases, all the insert clips are on the left side. Criterion decided to package The Human Condition upside down and who knows what other 3-disc titles with Scanavo 3-disc cases also faced the same situation. Criterion doesn't seem to notice that the case is upside down. The video you showed has the push buttons blurred out, but as indicated on Criterion Forums where they've shown photos of the packaging. It seems that every copy of Human Condition is packaged with an upside down case and I've received 2 copies with the same upside down cases already. If you look at the bottom spine area inner or outer of the case, you'll notice a code with numbers and letters. It is where you'll find the case number. Generally it is always at the bottom.
I actually had a helping hand in getting Scanavo to get the 3-Disc cases made. At the time, because of dual format, most Criterion releases were being put in Digipaks because no 3-disc case existed. So I sent out a request to Scanavo, and they responded inquiring how much demand there would be for such a product. So I created a thread asking the community here to help weigh in, and a couple days later, thanks to a large preference for plastic cases, they responded and announced 3-disc cases would be made. Criterion later dropped dual format, so there really wasn't much need for it.

The 3-disc case was designed with the clips and single disc on the left side. This is what Scanavo wrote me to tell me the case was coming out:

Quote:
Hi Michael,

It's my pleasure to officially be able to inform you that we will be building a 3disc full-sleeve Blu-Ray case that will have room for a Criterion booklet. It will look like the current 2/1 case but with an extra disc hub under the booklet.

The case has been designed with form and function in mind and will stay true to the philosophy of allowing Criterion to display their beautiful artwork without the interruption of a Blu-Ray bar while maintaining our focus on quality and protection of the contents of the package.

We expect our cases to start appearing on retail shelves either in late spring or early summer 2014.
Thanks again for the great feedback. It's really a gift to have such enthusiastic fans be a part of the fabric of this movie community. You're the reason that we continue to be able to make beautiful cases and SteelBooks for the industry.
Very best,
Nick Coughlan

So, I'm pretty sure the 3-disc cases have always had the push button upside down. I just looked at the very first 3-disc release in a plastic case, L'Eclisse, and its push button is upside down too. That's the only "issue" with the case, everything else is how it's supposed to be. I guess we should give credit that it took over 7 years for someone to actually notice this.

Case closed.

So if anyone is going to snap off the booklet clips, make sure you snap them off all three-disc Scanavo cases.

.
Other than those 2, is there another 3 disc Scanavo.

The only picture I can find of replacement cases of the same style where you can sort of see where the spine writing is (too blurry to see the PUSH) actually shows the clips on the right side.

Pfft, what a piddly amount (so says the person who bought exactly four blurays during the sale).

I wanted to go back for Robert Altman's 3 Women but didn't receive the usual email from Criterion alerting me of the last day. Watching too much of the Olympics and losing track of the days cost me a movie.

The one I missed out on is The Golden Age of Television. Every time I checked it was oos. This has been a white whale title from previous sales too: Either I forget about it or the oos syndrome comes up. Next time, For sure!

I'm not sure. I do see that too. It would be odd if those retailers had the case upside down in the picture, but it's possible.

Anyone has this weird thing with some Criterion cases where the middle of the spine kind of flattens with time? It's more noticeable over a black insert. Not sure how to explain it lol.

I refuse to support Criterion directly and prefer to use second hand methods of titles being pre-owned or whichever. I will again when they finally release on 4K disc.

ANYWAY, I've quite a lot of Criterion titles on my DVD Netflix queue. Have two discs at a time Blu-ray disc option and unlimited. The most obvious being Akira Kurosawa on there. Was going to add some Toshiro Mifune, French New Wave, and other randomness. No titles I already own from other companies.

Nothing motivates a company to use their revenues to invest and expand into a new venture like taking that revenue away from them. That's some beautiful logic you got there.

I think the packaging screw up might increase the value of the blu-ray set much like the infamous Billy Ripken error card.

They probably won't be releasing The Seventh Seal on UHD after today's news.

Nothing disincentivizes change like supporting the status quo. There’s a word for that. It’s called enabling.

Note: I have no skin in this game. I’m happy using my 1080p setup from 2008.

Punishing Criterion by buying their movies 2nd hand in no way sends an actual message to Criterion to change. They're not looking at their bottom line and saying "well gee, we lost this much revenue because people aren't buying our Blu-rays out of protest for us not jumping to 4K, guess we need to change that ASAP"

I mean, who else would release a Janus film in 4K in the US besides Criterion? I know they’re not the same company, but they ARE joined at the hip. Unless, of course, they’re writing off 4k in the US altogether.

They should have gone 4K already, as of last year or even 2019.
No thanks to you completely skipping over my post regarding renting these.

A lot of Criterion's titles are 4K from other companies already. They're already too late in the game on upping to a more current physical format. Unless if it's something not released by anyone else, whatsoever.

I agree with you re: Criterion needing to go 4K, but have you actually contacted them to state your dissatisfaction with that fact, and that you are semi-boycotting them as a result?
