Why does Written On The Wind have a trailer for All That Heaven Allows as an extra feature (on the DVD edition)? Same director I know, but seems a bit odd.

I'm not concerned about Amadeus. It's big enough to eventually get a WB release. But how much longer do I have to wait for After Hours?

Now we can start making plans for the next 24-hour flash sale.

Previous February/March flash sale dates (all Tuesdays except for the 2011 sale):

February 23, 2021
February 25, 2020
March 5, 2019
February 13, 2018
February 28, 2017
February 23, 2016
March 10, 2015
February 25, 2014
February 26, 2013
February 14, 2012
February 24, 2011

So I guess we can safely assume that all 4 February titles will be on sale (or minus Boat People, if the sale starts on Feb 15, instead of Feb 22).

Great film. Since it's Fox it would be the same transfer as the previous release which look great. I really thought The Man Who Wasn't There would have been revealed by now.

Because in the early 2000s you wouldn’t easily be able to find a trailer in decent quality online. Criterion were just promoting another of their titles

Love Affair is a public domain title and has never had any type of decent release on any format as far as I know. I cannot wait to see the restoration. This is one of the announcements Criterion has had a in a while.

At this point, I think it’s inevitable.

Disappointing they couldn’t get Barton Fink. The Man Who Wasn’t There is inevitable

A strong slate of announcements for me. I've been hoping for a while now that they would have Boat People, and I think more people will get on board with that title when they learn about it. As I scrolled down the list of announcements, I found myself silently saying 'yes!' to myself a bit louder with each title. My only disappointment is that there are only four titles this month including an upgrade. Usually when they have an upgrade title, they release five titles that month. Of course a UHD would always be nice, but I can understand why none of these titles justified that treatment, Miller's Crossing probably being the only realistic possibility based on title, but only from a 2K restoration. Also a fan of all of the cover arts, though I seem to be the only person here who actually routinely likes a lot of them.

Ann Hui is a total legend of HK cinema—thrilled to see Boat People & her get the treatment that they deserve! I’m excited to revisit Written on the Wind as well—Sirk’s are so timeless in their own way.

I saw this at MoMA a couple of years ago and remember it being a very nice print. What they have is evidently Leo McCarey's own print. I would imagine that since that is the source, it should look very good. In my opinion, this version is superior to the remake with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

I think Love Affair is the first Lobster Films license, so I wonder if we're going to finally get the Blu-ray upgrade for The King of Kings for March or April. The French edition has been out for a while and from what I've seen online, the 4K restoration is stunning.

Please, I have held off on getting the French Blu of the silent The King of Kings, mainly because it was super expensive, but I love this film and it would be nice to experience it again before Easter next year.

There's apparently a new 5.1 sound mix. Right now it doesn't sound like a must-have.

Dailyan compared the screen shots between the Criterion photos and the original Blu-ray and they looked nearly identical. If I didn't have the Fox Blu-ray I would be all over this, but it's pretty much the same thing.

A nice upgrade for Written on the Wind and another classic for Love Affair. First time for me hearing about Boat People, but I sure am all in for the Coen Bros. film Miller's Crossing. Cool month.

Donating my old Blu-ray copy to the library and buying the Criterion release for the cover and special features

Picked up a copy of The Blob during the Barnes and Noble sale and when I cracked it open last night I noticed the disc is covered with scratches, including one particularly long, deep one. I’ve never gotten a new Criterion in this sort of condition so it’s a bit surprising. Haven’t decided what I’m going to do about it yet. Don’t think I want to keep it but trying to return a disc is always a pain after it has been opened.
