I wish Criterion would make some new t-shirts…some movie-based shirts.

For the longest time they’ve only had the Criterion/Janus Films shirts and the orange House shirt.

…give us something new please.

So Criterion was REALLY good about offering me replacements, and got back to me very quickly. The discs and booklets for both Uncut Gems and Magnificent Ambersons were fine (thankfully), it was just the outer digipak and inner slip cases that got damaged so they're sending me new packaging free of charge (and they assured me it won't get hit with customs).

They even asked if there were any other Criterion editions in my collection that needed replacing due to damage, which surprised me. My digipak of Scanners actually got damaged in a move a couple years back (one of the edges got crushed) and it's bothered me ever since, so I asked if they could send me replacement packaging for that as well. That's really awesome of them, I wasn't expecting this at all. Mind you, I was also very nice about all this in my email, so maybe that also had a bit to do with it lol. Regardless, they've been great about this whole situation. Kudos to Criterion.

That's nice of them to say, but I am pretty sure they have no control over whether Canada Border Services Agency does or does not charge fees.

Well I probably shouldn't have said "assured" lol, but they told me they value the replacement package at $0 in order to try and avoid customs fees, and I don't ever really get hit when that's the case. But you're right, they definitely have no control over whether CBSA charges anything or not.

I wish we could get a Joan Crawford collection from Criterion. Watching Mildred Pierce on Turner Classic Movies right now and it would be wonderful to have 4 or 5 of Joan's films in a set.

My dad got hepatitis from oysters, the last time he ever ate them. That gangster character did like to live dangerously. But, We did enjoy his scenes irregardless.

I'm pretty sure that most studios/content owners that Criterion is licensing from (especially the big ones) probably stipulate in the contract that Criterion can't create any other merchandise to profit from other than a release of the films, themselves.

At least...that's what *I* would do...

Shout! Factory does limited posters with pre-orders, for instance, but they are included "free" while supplies last.

Makes sense.

But surely out of all the indie-style/foreign films they license, they could find two or three with a green light to make shirts for.

…either that or some creative variation on their own shirts.

Yeah, but you always do with Criterion and DHL. My order was about $200 total. I paid about $50 in customs and taxes.

Ouch! Why do they use DHL? I've never ordered direct from Criterion, and that convinces me not to bother.

You know it's a visual effect-heavy film when there's an extra with this guy.

I've seen a few threads lately regarding a lot of quality control issues with discs being scratched. Just thought I'd share my fresh out of the shrink copy of The Piano. I just emailed Criterion about it. I guess we all need to check our discs these days.

I've had my quality control issues but I never received a disc with a finger in it

Am I correct in assuming if Contempt returns to the collection it's unlikely to get a UHD? As far as I know, it hasn't actually received a 4K restoration.

Probably because it’s a better alternative to USPS lol. But even if it were FedEx or UPS, I’d still get dinged with customs. You also get your order SUPER fast (a couple days) as opposed to weeks. I still saved about $15 CAD per title even with the customs fees taken into consideration as I also had $20 worth of gift certificates. That helped soften the blow.
