A bit off-topic, and a bit of a long shot, but I'd be very interested to know where this photo of Fellini was taken. It looks like the dining car of a train, but might very well be a restaurant styled in that fashion. Wherever it was taken, I think it's a great image.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe it’s a behind the scenes still from the alternate ending of 8 1/2 in which Guido rides a train with all the characters seen throughout the movie.

Am image search brought me to a now deleted Criterion post from Feb. 2013, so it does appear to be from the set of 8 1/2. http://www.criterion.com/current/pos...n-the-set-of-8

It is from the lost alternate ending train sequence. There's a whole documentary on it called The Last Sequence on Criterion's disc (also streaming on the Channel).

Fantastic! I have the standalone release, but have never watched the supplements. Time to check out that documentary.

Big thanks to the fine forum members here!

On a side note, can we not expect titles with boutique 4K releases to ever get digital 4K releases, as well, such as The Apartment, Some Like It Hot, Mulholland Drive, King of New York, and so on?

Granted, Citizen Kane and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly appear to have digital 4K versions available on iTunes.

Or will the rights holders probably just take their time making them digitally available in the format? For what it's worth, I think Janus, and effectively Criterion, outright own the North American rights to MD.

Don’t worry. The thread will be buzzing again with whining whenever the new announcements are made.

Got an email about The Planet of the Apes on the Criterion Channel. I already own this movie on Blu-Ray? I'm assuming that the Criterion Channel doesn't have this on 4K, so there would be no advantage to watching this on the channel, right?

I just received notice from the Criterion Channel that we are coming up on the 3 year anniversary. I'm a charter member and I pay the subscription as an annual payment. For what works out to be $7.50 a month it's hard to beat.

I just did a quick look, and it is not the same transfer as the Blu-ray. It's richer, and more colorful, and in my opinion the more appealing of the two. I'm not sure if this a new restoration/remaster, or just what the digital version has always looked like. I
Fox Blu-ray Top / Criterion Channel Bottom

Same here, I even display my "Membership Card" with the discs. It really is a steal considering its the cheapest streaming service I pay for, and the one I watch by far the most.

Another benefit is that subscribers also frequently receive $10 credits for the Criterion store. I just received one on Friday to celebrate the 3yr anniversary, which I'll save for the fall Flash Sale. That makes the deal even better!

I'm extremely happy with the Channel and recommend it for any cinephile, even those devoted to physical media like most of us here on the forums.

Interesting. Maybe I'll have to compare my Blu-Ray copy and the one being shown on the Criterion Channel.
