This was a big omission.

Like Father, Like Son and Our Little Sister are also missing on blu-ray.

Janus is being credited as the licensor for Jean Eustache' 'Father Christmas Has Blue Eyes'. I'm wondering if this means that Criterion/Janus have picked up the rights to the rest of Jean Eustache's catalogue and are waiting for the films to be restored.

Except for The Third Murder and After the Storm, no other Kore-eda Hirokazu film after Still Walking is available in the US on Blu-Ray. That was one the biggest reasons I bought a region free player. Shoplifters is a giant omission. A Cannes Palm d'Or winner can't even get a domestic release on BD.

I've never seen a bad film from him, I've now only not seen his last one called The Truth, and am surprised that I Wish and the two you mentioned hasn't been released, and I'm glad Mabarosi and After Life finally were released here. I already owned the Bandai Visual ones with Linda Hoagland created subtitles, so I'm just fine with them.

I'd really honestly like Criterion to release "The Devil All the Time" and Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods". I'd also like to see Criterion release "Pretend It's a City".

Completely agree. I’ve never seen a bad film from him either. Shoplifters is a slam dunk classic. He always makes you think.

I even liked Hana in all its silliness. The only movie of his that doesn't make you think, but it's not supposed to.

Criterion helpfully replaced 11 blu-ray discs for me which were on their list of titles that were potentially prone to discrot. They're happy to replace them even when they're still fully functional (and if they don't have the letters "BVDL" on the reverse side).

For those that are interested the artwork on many of the replacement discs differed slightly in terms of shading and color but not adversely. One of the discs they replaced was the only one of the eleven that had stopped functioning altogether and that was Le cercle rouge, and that was a real shame because their original release had more natural colors than their re-release which closely resembles the Studiocanal release that leans very heavily toward blue. I already had the Studiocanl disc anyway (part of their Melville boxset).

Got to congratulate the folks at Criterion for the courtesy and professionalism with which they handled my query.

Most Criterion fans in-the-know are aware of the half-off July sale, so I wonder what the thinking is behind having 30% off now when waiting a couple months yields more savings?

Not to mention it’s just 11 titles on UHD.

It happens. Some people don't know about the sales and some people simply can't wait. I've seen people in this forum and other forums identifying that they paid full price. And I'm thankful for those people because they help allow Criterion to offer the sale prices to the rest of us.

Is it maybe to spoil our appetites before the big meal of a sale in July?

I prefer 30% off sales because there's no tricky half-off calculations to be solved with it. While you brainiacs whittle away your time on your wittle abacuses (abaci?) trying to solve life's greatest equation, I will be enjoying my purchases, even if it's just 30% of the movie

A lot of people around here can't help themselves and feel they have to jump when they see "sale", even if it behooves them to wait for a better sale.

Right!

Before I actively got involved in collecting Blu Rays and following the communities, I had purchased a couple Criterions at those 30% prices thinking I got a good deal. I now know better to budget and wait for the half off sales.

Now that I'm following these forums and checking this site regularly, I've been able to purchase more titles within a year than when I used to.

What is this? The New Math?

No, no, no! It's 30% OFF, so he's getting 70% of the movie, not 30%. Now the question is, will it be the 70% with the ending, with the beginning, or with the beginning and the ending but missing 30% somewhere in the middle?

That's some Steiner Math, right there.
