Actually, this post in 2008 derailed the thread:

Quote:
Scottie: Since 1984, the Criterion Collection has been dedicated to publishing important classic and contemporary films from around the world in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. No matter the medium—from laserdisc to DVD and Blu-ray to streaming—Criterion has maintained its pioneering commitment to presenting each film as its maker would want it seen, in state-of-the-art restorations with special features designed to encourage repeated watching and deepen the viewer's appreciation of the art of film.

Back to the Criterion Collection.

How soon is too soon to start camping outside Barnes and Noble for the half off sale in July?

The Count's better half, Count Blah, has no time for this.

Very good chance.

The Young Girls of Rochefort is the anti-Hollywood musical, and it's wonderful.

Highly recommend the set, but would note that the other 3 films are quite a bit different in tone and style than Umbrellas, Young Girls and Donkeyskin.

A certain unreliable Blu-ray insider that we all know and "love" (TheDiscFather a.k.a Geek Gab) is claiming that Criterion will sign a deal with an "unexpected" company later this year in an "unexpected" genre.. Who knows if this will actually happen, given how he isn't the most reliable guy in the physical media news scene...

I'm late to the party here, but I'm in for Blow Out on 4K UHD. However, it seems like a title that could potentially get a David M-encoded UHD from Carlotta here in France at some point, so perhaps it's worth waiting...?

Also, Carlotta are releasing a 4K-sourced blu-ray of Red Desert, but I'm not sure whether or not it'll be a significant upgrade over the Criterion blu-ray, since the 4K restoration allegedly has color grading issues.

I wish Criterion would release more Peter Weir films. The Last Wave, The Year of Living Dangerously, and Gallipoli are all worthy of Criterion upgrades.
