Has there been any talk of Criterion doing a restoration of Kilmov’s 1981 far-out classic, Agony: The Life and Death of Rasputin? Or maybe an upgrade to White Dog (1982)?

Yeah, I'm sure there's a lot of behind the scenes work to streamline their product line and pricing, and present a uniformity on the market side. They don't need people who are not involved in the business giving them opinion and advice on how to run it. And no, buying a blu-ray doesn't make one a stakeholder, just like buying a big bag of chips doesn't get you an invite to the Frito-Lay boardroom meetings.

David Bowie’s social media account just dropped some footage of his Aladdin Sane tour in ‘73 with a title card saying, “16.05.23.”

I know Criterion often announces their stuff ON the 15th but this now brings an interesting situation: IF Criterion does delay their announcement for the next day, then we may actually get Moonage Daydream.

If not, then it’s probably some non-Criterion film like a restoration of the Ziggy Stardust Motion Picture

There are companies that will do it via AI for 25 cents a minute, and 1.00-1.50 a minute via a human. Hardly “a ton.”

Helps to learn what you’re talking about before, you know, talking.

Ironically, if they show an extra on the Criterion Channel it has the subtitles. Why? I'm assuming it's required by law. Yet, on the discs, no subtitles.
Most streaming is required to offer subs. Amazon is one that does require it. And if Criterion extras have subs, then it doesn’t “cost a ton” as uninformed people claim and post (I know what it costs, because I’ve had it done for movies and episodes I’ve produced). They should 100% be included on disc.

Why would I do that, when people carelessly post misinformation as if they know what they're talking about? Why are you so triggered when I post actual facts and back it up with knowledge?

Seems like a you problem. You can get over it, I have faith in you. But you probably choose to stay triggered, because Internet. Instead of getting off attacking me, why don't you go attack the person posting nonsense? Seems like a more worthy use of your time.

My guess Barry Lyndon 4K.

Maybe not an actual guess, I just want it.

Don't you have a motel to run? Quick, there's a potential customer heading here now. Get the milk and sandwiches ready. Chop, chop!

Same. For me it's Kubrick's best film. I absolutely love it. I'm hopeful we might get a 4K reasonably soon.

Apologies if anyone else mentioned it, but the Disney Movie Club still carries the Spike Lee two disc double features so you can buy a new copy of 25th Hour and He Got Game so long as you're a DMC member (or know one). The item number is 1214240

I've watched a lot of movies with the English subtitles/closed captions enabled that have apparently been done by some AI thing or who knows what. Tons of mistakes, in a way hilarious to see some of the shit they come up with, but in a way also pretty pathetic.

Speaking as someone who has used Youtube's automated subtitling (which is pretty good for a free service), when it's done by AI, you still need a human professional to correct all the typos and more importantly finesse the timing of sentences. The AI does help in reducing the busywork, but the QC process does take a good bit of time, and whoever is producing the disc has an additional headache in terms of the number of things to approve.

It can be done, but unless someone can come up with data which suggests that doing so will significantly improve revenue from this supposedly significant chunk of hearing impaired customers, the company will not dedicate the time and resources required to do this. Bigger studios that can hope to sell hundreds of thousands or more of units for a release (and hold a license in perpetuity) can better justify that.

Take a step back (or roll your wheelie chair a foot away from your keyboard) and ask yourself why you're being so needlessly antagonistic. Is that beneficial to the point you’re making, or will it turn people against you even if they’d otherwise be receptive to your point-of-view? I agree with you that everything should come with subtitles, but with your attitude I hesitate to voice any support for it.

You'd accomplish a whole lot more, and probably be a heck of a lot happier, if you approach discourse from a positive headspace. Try it next time, resist the urge to snark and you'll find more success educating others.
