I'll stick with my Arrow 4K of Fear and Loathing, but very excited to swoop up Bound and Blue Velvet.

Could the split international rights with Fox be an issue with accessing the elements, given the cut Arrow has to leave off of Legend? But then they released Conan just fine so maybe it isn’t an issue.

The artist Astra Zero does a lot of homerotic art (portfolio is NSFW).

Agreed. I'm not familiar with the film, but it looks like an incredibly greased up action figure on the cover.

Huh, so maybe keep the Olive Signature Edition of Bound for the alternative cut.....

Lana Wachowski's memories of making the film:
Quote:
She then talks about the challenges making the film, casting, dealing with Dino De Laurentiis, the producer, who never got along well with the Wachowskis because his idea of a "lesbian film" was not the same as theirs. On the first day of the shoot, the Wachowskis shot the lesbian bar scene, for which Lana used a real lesbian bar with the real dykes that frequented it. When Dino saw the dailies he called Lana requesting everything to be reshot because it was all wrong; "those are not lesbians" he said. He sent Lana a casting catalogue with "supermodels" and asked Lana to pick her lesbian extras from it..

A solid, all-inclusive slate of announcements from Criterion for June. With 2 solid 4k upgrades as well, these releases should appeal to just about everyone.

Fear and Loathing? Didn't this already have an Arrow release?

Interesting to see a miniseries (The Underground Railroad). Has CC done many of these? Seems to open a category of content that they don't do a lot of.

Hopefully we'll see a UHD release from BFI as we have with Wages of Fear.

The two things going for the Criterion 4K for Fear and Loathing is for those who don't already own the pretty definitive Arrow release (are the bets on that it'll use the same transfer?) and, even for those who do, the presence of the Hunter S. Thompson commentary. But still very glad they finally upgraded it.

As for the rest, oh my god what a line-up for June! Blue Velvet is especially hype, been waiting for ages. The Underground Railroad is a complete surprise but a very welcome one at that. I've been wanting to check out Querelle for some time so I can now just wait for the UHD, but the sentiments about the cover looking oddly AI-generated are echoed here too. And of course Bound is a delight. My wallet is going to be drained needing to import these in (unless UK Criterion pulls a miracle and delivers the goods on getting all of these across for their month announcements).

They don't do too many of them. Last year they released Steve McQueen's Small Axe

Several of their limited series releases are from Fassbinder, including Eight Hours Don't Make a Day, World on A Wire, and Berlin Alexanderplatz

I really dig the slipbox edition of Bound I have so I don't think I wanna swap that out, but I'm 100% in for Underground Railroad. And Querelle sounds really interesting, I gotta check that out

Wow wow wow. I think this is the first time ever I've wanted every single release from a month's announcement. Brilliant job, Criterion.

That rendering of Brad Davis on the Querelle cover art seems a bit...optimistic, lol.

Definitely a great month for releases. I'm especially excited for the 4K releases of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (one of my favorites), Bound, and Blue Velvet.

The Underground Railroad looks great and I was meaning to eventually stream it (I still haven't seen it) but will definitely purchase the Criterion set. Victims of Sin looks incredible. I still haven't seen any Fassbinder yet.

I just watched Dersu Uzala on my imprint Region B Blu Ray yesterday it’s a phenomenal film honestly it deserves that Academy Award it got as it’s a great Akira Kurosawa film. I’m surprised Criterion hasn’t released this on Blu Ray yet. This and The Thief of Baghdad really deserve Blu Rays as soon as possible from Criterion. As hopefully Criterion puts them both on Blu Ray this year or the next year. As other Blu Ray companies have already put these on Blu Ray in other countries.

It's a source materials question. They've said they desperately want to. There was apparently a Mosfilm restoration but chances of any access to Mosfilm stuff that doesn't come from an intermediary is likely nil with the war and sanctions.

I think the artifice of the AI image works with the movie and the choice of filming it all on a soundstage to give the feeling of artifice. My issue is Brad Davis looks more swoll than he was in the movie.

Also obligatory, Twitter is the worst.
