What's the basis for this assumption? Goodfellas remains a profitable catalogue title for Warner, and Taxi Driver is with Sony right?

A little strange that Criterion hasn't updated the Blue Velvet page with new screenshots. They always do with new announcements/upgrades.

It's the same base 4K restoration used for the 2019 Blu-ray. Even possible that it had the HDR grade done back then.

Everyone keep your prior Olive, Arrow, and M6 discs until we know exactly what we’re buying.
After checking the Olive Signature edition, seems like the two cuts have almost identical runtimes once you subtract the Olive/Paramount logos only on the unrated cut. Also looks like the unrated cut has been the defacto version on US home video as it wasn't until Olive's editions that both were included.

And for those concerned about the sound, both the Republic laserdisc and Artisan DVD have 5.1. In fact, the commentary was done for the laserdisc back in 1997. Seems like Olive only included 2.0 stereo on their editions for some reason.

I will point out that the sound for "Bound" on the Olive Signature disc is absolutely outstanding. This is a dialogue driven film and not a soundtrack driven film. The cinematography by Bill Pope is such a huge part of the feel of this movie that you will never be thinking about the sound in any fashion. The Bill Pope interview is very informative and enjoyable if you have any respect at all for his work. Hopefully they can carry that over to this release. All said, this 4K offering will only give the visual punch of the film that much more to enjoy!

TCM has some truly execrable "Oirish" films today (and something called Le Samourai, but oddly enough no Quiet Man), but they have the truly excellent Odd Man Out. Roman Polanski's favorite film, and Richard Burton considered it James Mason's best work.

Imitation of Life turned 65 today. Here's hoping that it gets a release (hopefully 4K) through Criterion like the original did!

Bound has been on my wishlist for a while now. I'm stoked to see it's getting a Criterion release.

Now that I realized that The Underground Railroad was on Amazon Prime as an Original, I'm being brought back to another Amazon Original title that is also highly requested:

[Show spoiler]

I have the Artificial Eye edition but a 4K UHD would be amazing

EDIT: I realized I missed the screening of Le Samourai from TCM. Can anyone tell me if this was the new restoration or not? Thanks in advance!

The Irish Times had a run-down of their favorite 50 Irish films:
Quote:
When testing a novel for Irishness, we need focus our attention on the writer alone. Colm Tóibín's The Master may be set in England and published by a British house, but nobody would claim it was anything other than an Irish book. John Crowley's adaptation of Tóibín's Brooklyn is Irish as well. But it's also British and a little bit Canadian. A co-production of the BBC and the Irish Film Board (among others), it quite reasonably competed for awards at both the British and Irish Academies. Few of the films on this list pass the purity test for absolute uncorrupted Irishness.

Our rules are looser than some may prefer. Significant numbers of Irish personnel is a factor. Notable levels of Irish funding scores you a few more points on our jerry-rigged scale. Shooting a film in Ireland gets you a long way down the road, but, as should be obvious, external productions that use the country as a stand-in for somewhere else aren't getting anywhere with the jury. Neither Saving Private Ryan (Normandy in Wexford) nor The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (the Berlin Wall in Smithfield) was up for consideration.
Bizarre that they omit In The Name Of The Father, and disappointing that Excalibur did not make the cut. I would have rated Odd Man Out the top pick, but I'll accept Kubrick's last great film. Now can we get this on 4K?

It's funny how people are already throwing around "AI Image" the same way they do "DNR" — whether it's actually been used or not.

Sorry I offended you with my use of AI. I saw others saying it and didn’t check out how the artist made it. Sorry my post upset you.

I sorry you jumped to conclusions, believed everything you read on the Internet, posted without even knowing facts, and disrespected the artist in return. You know what they say about assumptions, right?

(But sure, try to deflect make it about me. Take the blame, dude. You earned it.)

Multiple people have posted the free link. So then you’re repeating other people.
