I remember I thought Criterion was like the Hall of Fame of movies. I wish they'd have some delay between when a movie is released and when it's released in the collection. That way we can know if the movie really stands the test of time. But I guess All of Us Strangers from last year got fast tracked to classic status probably because Criterion panders. If that's the case, then that just cheapens the concept of this whole collection being something special.

I hate how Criterion always panders to fans of great movies.

Nah, they'd rather pander to the New York Times and whoever else they specifically care about pleasing. I'm holding out hope that the new owner will right the ship at least somewhat, so that it can be about movies that really deserve it.

Can't believe we're getting Happiness.

Sweet. You're off to a good start, but I'm going to need "woke", "censorship" & "snowflake" to get a Bingo.

All Of Us Strangers being rescued from a digital-only release by Disney/Fox and even presented in 4K within less than a year?

I hope this isn't a one-off like WALL-E that Haigh had to personally arrange with Criterion, given that they released his films before but instead an open gate to the other Searchlight films that need 4K releases like Nomadland, A Hidden Life and Poor Things!
Not only that, but also a number of older Fox Searchlight films that still don’t have Blu-Rays at all. There’s a number of them some of them that I’m very surprised never got a Blu-Ray at all.

Criterion limits their releases, and it makes sense to me to have those resources spent on movies that require restoration, translations or HDR upgrades. I don't care the genre. You pick. I see movies with a cult fanbase and it's obvious to me that those movies must have something special about them. I bought movies when I was younger that I no longer care to watch or rebuy. I'm interested in the movies that people still care about years later, not from a year ago.

Aw hell, I guess I'm in. This with Get Carter one of the best of the Brit noirs, and a perfect allegory for the times that were coming.

Even though I don't agree with the way Cuckterion is complaining, I unfortunately have to agree with Cuck.Over the last two years I've become completely uninterested in Criterion's release day. I see one this month, The Long Good Friday, and that's it. As a Japanese film fan I am just exasperated in the wait for new titles to Blu-ray or 4kBD. But that's just my opinion as I have other labels like the upcoming Naruse Mikio Floating Clouds from BFI to celebrate. I do believe the Criterion fan base now is just younger than the old fart I've become. So enjoy the titles & keep Criterion going for those few titles I'll enjoy.

They’ve released what, close to 1500 films? It’s ok (and probable) that there are some that don’t resonate with you.

As they should, if there are any good ones.

Edit: Paradise Now, which I watched for the first time last year, would be a worthy addition to the Collection.

I might get the Blu of The Long Good Friday to supplement the Arrow 4K I'm importing.

I'm actually curious if there's some good documentaries or even narrative films to seek out.
