Criterion could always start to offer a 4K UHD edition on select Janus Contemporaries releases. Just another option for a slightly higher cost. It would still cost less than standard Criterion releases because there are fewer bonus features.

Example: Flow Blu-ray edition and Flow 4K UHD edition (both offered from Janus Contemporaries) and neither edition even needs to necessarily be a combo pack, either.

Criterion will definitely be releasing ANORA, and I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict it gets announced this month for their April lineup. (If not this month for April, most likely next month for May. Definitely do not see it coming out later than June.)

Also, THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG is another NEON title that will likely be released by Criterion this year.

Anatomy of a Fall was announced as a May release, so that would completely track for Anora.

And TRIANGLE OF SADNESS was 4K and April, so I think it's totally possible ANORA comes out in April.

And this was after I posted my initial reply, but I have it on good authority that ANORA will be announced this month for April. Won't say who I heard it from but my source's source is 100% legit.

Would love to see more 2000s movies in the collection. Especially since some never got a Blu-ray release back in the day. The Namesake (2006) and Away From Her (2006) come to mind.

It's amazing that no other label I buy from has this issue. Maybe it happens, but Criterion is the only label this happens for me. Such an annoyance. It happens so much.

I think it's just a strong assumption a lot of us have because Criterion has released 1 other Sean Baker movie, is confirmed to be releasing 3 others, and Anora is a Best Pic frontrunner distributed by Neon who has licensed all their Best Pic frontrunners to Criterion

Yeah, the Baker set is supposedly going to be announced for April as well, but ANORA I have on good authority definitely will be announced for April.

Aside from TITANE—which was inexplicably not licensed out in favor of THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD—all of NEON's Palme winners have been licensed to Criterion, alongside other highly acclaimed NEON titles like PERFECT DAYS and PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE. It was obvious the second it won the Palme that ANORA would follow suit, especially as Criterion has already released TAKE OUT.

And it's a safe bet THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG is coming from Criterion sometime this year as well.

I've bought from Criterion a lot but never this exact scenario, so I'd appreciate if anyone could answer this silly question:

If I were to preorder Anora and the Sean Baker box set in the same order as my inevitable Feb/March 50% off sale order--I know they won't have the discount, but just wanting to lump them in to get the free shipping on them--will the discounted sale stuff ship sooner, or do they hold off until the preorders are out to ship everything?

I might've said SIDEWAYS if Disney did not have the rights now and he had not gotten MeToo'd. Criterion doesn't seem to want to touch films made by allegedly predatory directors these days. (Case in point: no rush to release a Blu-Ray of KNIFE IN THE WATER despite having the rights.)
