I know for Wall-E that was the case. I saw an interview with the director(maybe even on the disk itself) where he stated that he had directly petitioned Disney and Criterion to get his movie into the Criterion Collection.

The ending of White is my favorite moment of any of the three films in the Three Colors trilogy.

It’s an extraordinary piece of silent acting by Julie Delpy.

Besides Anora and those under Janus Films's banner (like Flow), which of this year's Oscar nominees have the best chances of joining the Criterion Collection? At the moment, I'm leaning towards Nickel Boys (similar to Amazon loaning out One Night in Miami and Time to the CC) and some of the International and Documentary nominees.

Besides Nickel Boys, I'd say The Seed of the Sacred Fig (NEON) and Emilia Pérez (Netflix) are two other possibilities.

Yeah, I thought of mentioning that one too. I believe Sony Pictures Classics got the rights to it so it's possible. I just hope if Sony does release it, it's on Blu-ray as they've been putting a lot of their contemporary acquisitions on DVD only. I'm hoping to see the film in the upcoming week, it looks really good.

Yeah they got it. But Sony has disappointed me with the DVD stuff. I’m also still waiting for them to release The Room Next Door on Blu in the US.

Hoping Criterion and Netflix continue to work together. Still waiting for Mank and Buster Scruggs over here.

After what Fincher said recently, I dont think we'll ever see his Netflix films on the label.

Again, a bit confusing, and maybe he just meant Mindhunters?

I dont trust Netflix and Ted Sarandos as much as I can throw them. The CEO said that he was trying to work with Lynch to greenlight his latest project, after his passing. It felt tasteless and came across as hollow.
So I wouldn't be surprised if they were strong arming Fincher and not letting him release physical collectors versions of his films.
