I would purchase it directly from A24. No other boutique label will treat you better when buying a 4k. It is wonderfully packaged (like a gift) with additional postcards.

What direction does Criterion give people when they raid the closet? She really went to town on this visit.

According to a recent podcast, they don’t give specific guidance. But they’re not a warehouse - it really is a closet, and they’re coming close to reaching the limits of what that closet can store, with one copy of a 4k/BD and one copy of a DVD, generally speaking. Anyway, they try to monitor stock closely so titles stay available. If it’s something popular - I think they used Pat Garrett as an example IIRC - they’ll ask the talent to leave it behind and they’ll send them a fresh copy as soon as they get it back in stock.

(They also have a laserdisc closet with the complete collection of their LD releases, and they’re amused by when the long-time Criterion fans want to visit that as well. I don’t think they get to take anything home from that, though.)

Define soon .. Unfortunately there's no real correlation between when they're added to Janus' site and when a physical release comes out (if they ever do). Sometimes it can be shortly after, but other times it may take years.

I think that's the big question mark here. Is this just a re-release of those 8 titles, plus Isle of Dogs and French Dispatch on BD also? Or are we truly looking at a 10-film 4K set here? That would obviously be pretty huge.

I can't imagine they would go through this trouble just to do a BD only release (especially if they're including Isle of Dogs and French Dispatch). I'd bet money it will be 4K, but who knows with Criterion
