I highly recommend High and Low it's a fantastic film, and my second favorite Kurosawa film of all time. It's an absolute classic if you want to start getting into Kurosawa films I highly recommend starting with that one, and the Hidden Fortress.

Actually, though none have been identified that I know of, Welles supposedly did write quite a few pulp novels as he was a big fan of them. Obviously not under his own name.

Yeah, after news came out that Bleecker Street acquired the rights to This is Spinal Tap, I figured they'd be the ones releasing it. This is the first film Criterion is able to license from them.

The only Bleecker Street title that seems to me to be a sure bet is The Wedding Banquet, which ticks off a lot of Criterion boxes: it's Ang Lee, from Taiwan, LGBT subject matter, and there was a remake this year with Bowen Yang. It's a terrific comedy, and I highly recommend checking it out.

They might still do Rashomon, as in an all-out brand new 4K restoration. I don't know how low the element is, but they did a 4K scan for Stray Dog and that supposedly wasn't 4K amount of info either.

The Ikiru UHD from capsohalic looks like something seriously wrong happened with the encode. I'd love a proper encode job for it.

I would recommend watching his films in order if you can. If it's a notable director, I like to see how they mature (or not). I don't like watching stuff out of order, it's an obsessive thing with me. Am I the only one who does this? Am I just crazy?

It's certainly possible, but the best surviving element was a 35mm print from the camera negative made in 1962 after it had already had quite a lot of damage and shrinkage. Though, worth noting that Rashomon is Kadokawa, not Toho.
