The membership is fully refundable, and if you buy 4 Criterion titles at $13 a pop, it pays for itself.

You seriously still think it's not a great deal?

They haven't applied the sale to all titles yet. Probably won't until tomorrow. Sit tight

I was under the impression that if you operated B&M stores in the state the package was being shipped to, you had to charge tax. I could be mistaken though.

Yeah, its too much hastle. Plus I'm not really into scamming to get a cheaper deal.. thats why prices are up in the first place.

Even if I bought 10 movies, that's an extra $2.50 a movie, PLUS sales tax. That pretty much negates a $5 off coupon, then I have to worry about cancelling a membership.

I'll wait for DD.

If you buy 10 movies at $13 each and then refund the membership, you pay $130 + tax. Even if your state sales tax is 10%, you're paying a maximum of $143.

If you buy 10 movies at DD, you pay $200.

If that $57 (or more) isn't important to you, more power to you, by all means waste your money. But it's absurd to say this "isn't a great deal." And I don't see why you're "worried" about canceling your membership when all it consists of is calling CS and saying "I don't want my membership anymore."

I always have a barnes membership card between all the other sales I do with them. I don't mind paying the membership fee I more than make up for them. Last Barnes sale I dropped 1,200.00

Yeah, I've had an active Barnes & Noble membership for a few years now myself. For me it is worth it. I buy books. Crazy, I know, but true.

These awesome sales are just icing on the already amazing cake for me.

Can't wait for tomorrow. Might try to stop by before work, since the store near me opens at 9 and I don't have to be in until 10.

I know, I'd just rather not scam a business to get a cheaper price. It's their fault for letting people get a refund on their membership, but it's still rather dishonest.

You've been promoting this sale like you're getting a commission or something, but I'd still rather shop at DD.

which criteron's are you guys buying? i've only seen playtime, last emperor, seventh seal and third man, loved them all, especailly playtime. also saw benjamin button but didn't care for it, and bottle rocket, which was ok but nothing special. i am considering a blind buy on 400 blows and wings of desire, any others worth a blind buy?

As mentioned, my main goal was to save as much money as I can. As much as I wanted to go with the Blu-rays for this sale...savings-wise...the box sets were the way to go for now (I enjoyed "The 400 Blows" a lot on Blu-ray but with the four sequels...I wanted that Antoine Doinel box set badly. So, I wanted to take advantage of this sale and get the expensive box sets 50% off and I wanted to take advantage of this coupon as much as I can:

First Order using the new member 20% off Code:

- The Adventures of Antoine Doinel
- Simon in the Desert - was on sale for $12...couldn't beat that.
- 4 by Agnes Varda
- Fassbinder's BRD Trilogy
- Eric Rohmer's Six Moral tales

Second Order using the 5% off Code:

John Cassavetes Five Films
Grey Gardens Set

I'll have my wife get me Playtime on Blu and have her join BN tonight. But I'm quite tempted on the Ingmar Bergman: Four Masterworks boxset and the Stage and Spectacle: Three Films by Jean Renoir box sets.

I haven't seen Wings of Desire but The 400 Blows is excellent. The Wages of Fear is my favorite Criterion Blu-ray so far and is an easy recommendation.

I love being able to purchase most of my BDs and DVD esp box sets in stores... I like to get great condition sets and don't like them dented and beat up. That is why I like to see them in the store before I buy them.

So the Barnes sale is killer fun. Just not at the bank haha

Because they are sorta depending on that $25 from members to make money. If everyone signed up just to save an extra 10% then got a refund, B&N would make less, and as a result not be able ot offer sales like this. basic economics. Liek I said, it's their fault, but people can be more honest and not take advantage as a matter of principle. I guess some people have more morals than others.

I see what you're saying, but scam is definitely not an appropriate word for it. Anyway, I would advocate that people keep their B&N memberships. Mine has paid for itself dozens of times over in the 2 years I've had it. B&N tends to have some great sale prices that beat out all other retailers.

Are the adding them a couple titles at a time? Because I've noticed a lot that aren't 50% off, including Third Man Blu-Ray although the DVD is.

It appears the majority of the Criterion titles that are on sale are the DVD's which are 50% off, they may fix this at the end of the day or by tomorrow morning and hopefully all BD's are 50% off.

I agree...these are not scams. These are for people who are frequent buyers. Memberships are good if you use it. It's like video game stores...I purchased them in the past and in the past, used it a lot but this year...hardly. I rarely go to barnes and noble (used to back in my college years) but if these Criterion sales happen often, then I may purchase a membership. This is my first time purchasing from them.
