Not to continue with this as it really is not that big a deal, but I did use the search function and manually went through the posts. All I have come up with is that The Third Man cases were available and the rest in November. That is it. Not where to go to get them or any updated information on the rest. I suppose I should have asked in avsforums. Sad when they are more polite on issues such as these. I also did not create a new thread that would clutter the boards or ask when Star Wars is being released on Blu.

I know that Criterion has lost the rights for "The Third Man" and "Ran" making them now OOP, but there is always a chance of them being able to buy the rights back, since they were able to do it for "Salo" last year.

Well, yes, Godard... while I do have the all-knowing "insider" information about Criterion's replacement case program, I've decided to just sit back and wait for Criterion to announce it on their site, which I think will be sometime around 2010 at a rate of one case every 3 months. Also, each case will only be available to order during a very limited time-frame... I'm pretty sure it's 24 hours per case. And, if your order is not in within that time frame, you're out of luck, I'm afraid. It seems silly to some, I'm sure, but it makes perfect sense to me.

To be completely honest, the information that you read is the only information, I believe, that any of us have as of now. That's why you're not getting any further information by reading the posts. And I only get my information from either reading other people's posts that I consider reliable or by direct e-mails with Jon Mulvaney over at Criterion.

It's almost guaranteed, I'm sure, that when more information becomes available about the remaining cases there will be many posts in here about it, plus on the other forums that I frequent. I hope that we find out when Criterion officially announces on their own site, but no one has any information as to when that's gonna be, unfortunately. I mean... even "The Third Man" case was never "officially" announced as available from Criterion. People only found out about it after someone had received an e-mail from Jon Mulvaney saying it could be ordered now through PayPal. We can only hope that the announcement comes sooner than later, but when Criterion says "mid-November, at the earliest" it more than likely means later.

All of the information and our responses should be taken with a grain of salt, anyway. I'm sure I'm not the only smart-ass in here, so just take it all lightly, if at all possible.

Best Buy is actually selling a Criterion Blu-ray other than Benjamin Button? That is shocking. My local Best Buy only carries Benjamin Button, but that's probably because it's a "mainstream" title.

Yeah, as unfortunate as their high prices are, many people have also reported seeing "Monsoon Wedding" in Best Buy, as well. I know in Rhode Island I've personally seen the blu-rays for "Monsoon Wedding" and "For All Mankind" in Best Buy.

I wonder if Best Buy would price match the BN 50% off all Criterions sale? You can't get Gomorrah through BN because of the release date, but since Best Buy is already selling it and the BN sale is for ALL Criterion titles that are available for purchase, perhaps they would match it?

found a Barnes and Noble in my mom's city that has two copies of Third Man left on blu. They have the hard case copy and the paper one. I've seen neither of these in person. Which one should I tell her to get for me?

If you want your Criterions to look uniform, you should go for the plastic one. All the paper cases will be replaced eventually.

Just got back from trying to price match Gomorrah at Best Buy and while they wern't able to price match the B&N 50% off, They still lowered it to $23 so i figured I'd just buy it now. Still $2 cheaper than the current amazon price .... And I got it a week earlier lol

Why did they lower it to $23? Was that some compromise instead of price matching, or is that just what they were charging for it and anyone could get it for that price?

Yeah, "inside" spine shows the same pic on both titles. The combination of my bifocals and poor light made me interpret as a man with a coonskin cap, in a trench.

Did anoyone purchase Columbia/ SONY's BD release for Soderbergh's sex, lies and videotape?

It seems to carry over the old laserdisc bonus features from 1990 and contains a commentary track trailers etc.

I just finished watching it and i think the transfer is spot on. It was never a glossy film and it does come across a bit dated for today, but overall I liked the film, I still need to listen to the commentary track with Soderbergh and Labute.

Thought I would mention it on this thread since some die hard Criterion Collector's may be interested in the release.

Hehe...yeah, I posted it on this thread earlier this morning. The only thing I have a problem with it is that I wish they featured the entire the 20th Anniversary Q&A, not just snippets. But overall, it a good Blu-ray. I understand how the film helped revolutionize Indie films but as I felt when I first watched it nearly two decades ago and now, It was ok...not great. But I did dig the commentary track.

In other news, updated the the Criterion Spreadsheet (fixed numbers) and also added disc quantity. Hope this helps those who are still on the hunt during the final days of the BN sale.

I agree thinking back that full Q & A should have been included overall it was well done. (in response to the Sex lies and Videotape Blu-ray release from Sony)
