Default Brag post! :)

I just got this delivered from Amazon! After receiving some of their BDs in the new cases, and hearing the topic of replacement cases, I kind of like the original casing. They stand out in the collection, as they should. I was nervous about the packaging, imagining this being a find deep in their warehouse, stuffed under fallen boxes. Instead, my copy was fully intact and only showed small wear on the right side of the slip cover.

i watched this on dvd the other day and was quite disappointed in the movie. it wasnt bad, but just not as good as past foreign films about gangs... (City of God, City of Men) just a one time watch and definitely not worthy of a sport on my permanent shelf collection (just my 2 cents)

I love Louise Brooks as well. What a talent hollywood wasted. If only she could have been around when studios didn't rule. Sorry it took a while to answer back. Too much drama in my life. Anyone interested feel free to contact me.

You want to wait on the rest then fine but Seven is a major player in the collection just as Seventh Seal, Grand illusion, 400 Blows and a few others are. Losing Ran was bad but Ran is nowhere near his best work...Seven Samurai is. Right now we have only one of his weaker films in Kagemusha on blu.

So why the hate for AK?
Completly agree any of his films are a definite double dip for me.

Do you guys know the new cases have made it to AMAZON? Has anybody received any of the early Criterion Blu's in the newer clear cases from them?

I have most of the criterion blu-rays already except for 3, all of which are in cardboard cases. I'd like to purchase them, but don't really want to go the hassle of getting them in cardboard an then purchasing replacement cases from criterion.

I've check at two local Barnes and Noble and they haven't received of them in the updated cases.

Thanks!

I just received Last Year at Marienbad on Tuesday from Amazon and it was in the cardboard case. I do, however, have The Third Man in the plastic case, which I got from Barnes and Noble during its sale.

thanks for the answers!

I already have the Third Man, got the clear plastic case from criterion.

Last Year a Marienbad was one of the titles I wanted to get, I guess I will have to wait for a few more weeks till they replenish their stock or try to find it at a local store.

Any early guesses for March titles?
Surely there will be a Kurosawa title to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth?
Is Seven Samurai too "big" to expect??

I say these (not all but the selection) based on past Janus runs/Criterion rumors:

Vivre sa vie
Bigger than Life
Dillinger is Dead
an IFC title (look to have one every month)
could have a Kurosawa as well.

And for the people who can't hold their pants on for Cronos and Stagecoach, they won't probably come around until May-June is my guess.

It would make for a good sense, release on BD for the 100th anniversary of his birth, probably his biggest movie. We can hope.

Rather have a Nicholas Ray film on blu instead of another Kurosawa, but whatever. Alot of people haven't caught up to Ray's films I guess.

I am planning to watch all of Kurosawa movies in March, nice way to celebrate his 100th anniversary.

I guess speaking about one of history great filmmaker is more important to some of us then having 6 or 7 pages talking about replacement cases for Criterion movies, everyone is different.

I don't talk about either. No one is jumping with joy about a Nicholas Ray film (besides me) that will happen (sometime this year), but are jumping with joy about Seven Samurai, which was never rumored for a blu-ray. I just found that weird. I just think it's obvious Kurosawa is like "a director for a beginner" in regards to "higher" film. Too much blind guidance. Enough anyway for people to not acknowledge the fact of actual releases with replies of Seven Samurai which has NEVER been rumored/or fact.

I wouldn't mind having Seven Samurai on blu. It's just weird, shouldn't we talk about actual rumored/fact titles that will be released soon instead of turning it into a director's love affair? I don't go on for 2 pages about "A Woman Under the Influence" should be on blu, and go on about it might be coming, with no real rumor/fact to it. That stuff is for the "Wish List" thread.

First of all this thread can encompass both types of conversations since they both pertain to Criterion on Blu-ray.

If you want to boil it down to Japanese director's , I'd much rather have films by Ozu, Teshigahara, Imamura or how about introducing a Takeshi Kitano film on Criterion.

Anyways Kagemusha has already been released.

Personally I would rather have films by Godard, Schlondorff, Visconti, Melville, Olmi, Cassavetes or many other directors before another Kurosawa on Blu-ray.

Agreed and thank you. Like I said, a Nicholas Ray movie has been rumored, yet everyone wants to post about their "requests" for a favored director who has one blu already out by Criterion.

I will now start my wish-lists for blu and we shall run with it:

A Woman Under the Influence
Weekend
Vivre sa vie
Alphaville
Opening Night
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
Sawdust & Tinsel
Two-Lane Blacktop
Blast of Silence
Made in USA
2 or 3 Things I Know About Her

I can keep going........oh.....

Trafic
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold
The Killing of a Chinese Bookie
Magnificent Obsession
The Friends of Eddie Coyle

You all get my point?
