The complete version has both the Monterey and the Jimi Hendrix...so yes. You can buy them separately as well.

If you ever go to the DVDTalk forums, you'll easily find the Visa link in there Bargains Thread. There's an on-going post that's kept up-to-date with Barnes & Noble coupons.

Good to know, thanks a lot!

Don't get the perks of using my BN Mastercard though...

Default Wow!

Now I've got to hit BB after work and see if they've got Che waiting for me.

RIP! Eric Rohmer! Your films were close to my heart!!!

I know some of you can't fathom watching DVD's but I highly recommend the Criterion box set of Eric Rohmer's "Six Moral Tales".

Hello to all,

I have decided to give Criterion a try and I started by reading the first 40 pages of this thread yesterday.

I didn't used to think about films much, but that all changed when I watched David Lynch's Mulholland Dr. a couple of years ago. I now find myself looking at how shots are framed, how dialogue is used, and how a story is developed. In short, it's time I started watching some real films.

You all seem very excited about the prospect of each new release. While my Criterion experience is very limited, I know what that excitement feels like.

Living in Canada makes Criterion purchases expensive. Even with the current $21.99 offers at Amazon.com, I would still have to pay $90 for three movies after shipping and import duty. I'm tempted to just order 10 and be done with it, but I'm trying to be sensible.

I just acquired four Criterion DVDs from the library to see what impact they have on me. They are:

The 400 Blows (which I will watch in a moment)
Closely Watched Trains
Throne of Blood
A Christmas Tale

And I also picked up Lolita as I am a Kubrick fan and have never seen it.

I did just take a chance on one blind buy - Wings of Desire - which cost me $21 in the Trading Forum.

I'm hoping to learn how to appreciate films on an entirely different level. From what I understand, and being a Lynch fan, I am very interested in seeing Last Year at Marienbad.

Anyway, that's about all for now. Time to watch The 400 Blows.

When I typed in "third man blu-ray" at borders.com, several local stores still have copies "likely in store". Not sure if you consider $40 a reasonable price. And not sure when they're going to email out coupons again.

Glad to see another person get hooked on Criterion! I agree Mulholland Dr. is an excellent film--hopefully we see a release in the US soon.

Curious to know what you thought of Wings of Desire. I had not heard a lot about this movie until it was announced by Criterion and was utterly amazed by its tone and feel.

Question: I bought a use Criterion Benjamin Button, and it came in a standard Blu-ray case. Is there anyway I can obtain an original case from Criterion or somewhere on the secondary market? Thanks.

Benjamin Button was released only in standard blu-ray case. Am not sure if Criterion will give you the plastic case similar to the other releases. I know in the Custom Cover Art Thread someone has created a cover you could print yourself if you found the case.

Did it come with a slip cover by chance?

Yep, I bought mine on release day and it came with one. Have not seen any copies recently so I don't know if they were first pressing only or are still available.

Forty pages down... now, just 200 more to go and you'll be all caught up. Seriously, though... welcome. There are some good people in here. Where as I'm usually just a messenger, some people in here are good for posting some insightful thoughts that you should enjoy reading.

I haven't seen Wings of Desire. It was a blind buy. Hopefully I'll receive it in a week or so.

I would be happy to pay $45 for this shipped to Canada if anyone could snag a copy. I would also be happy to trade for it or send some Canadian exclusives as part of the deal.

Thanks. Wings of Desire will be here in about a week and The Man Who Fell to Earth should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find something I like in the near future.

I can't stay awake watching Wings of Desire, if my life depended on it.
I've tried three times, and every time when he sees the girl on the swing training...
I'll try saturday morning. If that doesn't work...
