I also blind bought Wings of Desire & Loved it! Then again, I blind buy all the Criterion Blu-rays & have Not been let down yet (except for a few which were already all time favorites!)

Do you actually like almost all criterion releases or do you just buy them all to collect as well? I make sure to read a brief overview of what the movie is about before buying. Most criterion releases I know I'll like but there are a few I can tell I'd hate so I would not buy.

Ya, I want that one too. Unfortunately it looks like the going rate on Amazon is >$60.

Yep, I haven't even seen it. But I thought I had better move fast while there is still a chance. No telling what the quality will be like if someone else picks it up.

Good luck! A very difficult one to find, no doubt. I still have mine sealed (plastic case version--rarer) and was considering selling it, but it is such an excellent film and a high quality blu that I know I'd regret it.

Dont feel bad the fact you fall asleep during the film isn't a bad sign. My favorite film of all time is 2001 and I fall asleep during it all the time, same with A Clockwork Orange. Most every film I like I can drift off to.

I fell asleep Sat nite watching 8 1/2 and had to re watch it Sunday haha

I'm going to be honest and say I currently have every Criterion Blu Ray release to date, and have only watched 2.
I buy to collect as well as my love of film. I do research and read ABOUT the movies before I buy, and I am interested in most.
However, there are a few I don't think I'll enjoy when I get around to watching them, but having one or two missing in a collection just doesn't sit well with me.

Now If I could quit being addicted to tv series on dvd/blu ray, then maybe I can find some time to watch all these amazing films.

No offense but I just don't get this mentality. I know people do it with SD Criterion DVDs too. I guess I don't see CC really as a collection like lots do. They are a company that produces videos of many great films, but not always ones I want to own, especially at higher prices. But then, I don't get the people on this site that a thousand blu rays. You look at their collection and it's full of garbage. Not to mention they can't seriously have time to watch them all. I understand the compulsion to buy though, and that's why I'm trying to be more selective.

Fell asleep during Wings of Desire during the scene with the girl on the trapeze?!?

Haha no hard feelings, to each their own. But to me, that scene was captivating.

Hi. I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such self-help tapes as “Smoke Yourself Thin” and “Get Some Confidence, Stupid!”

Ok, ok... nothing special about CC, just a bunch of movies for acquired tastes.

Well, once you start watching these instead of having your collection based on Criterion Blu-rays, it will lead you to being more auteur-based and going after the films of those directors that you do enjoy. There are other films from those directors on Blu-ray that probably won't be released by Criterion on Blu...so you may want to check it out.

Looking at the films in your collection, your question is quite valid. Hehe... J/k! I went through the movies that you own and whenever you are ready to try and watch fabulous films from other countries, then definitely give Criterion a try. You won't be disappointed but definitely do your research to make sure that film is for you!

With the hardcore CC owners that own every DVD & Blu-ray (and some with the LD's as well), they are just hardcore. For me, Criterion is more than a collection for me as I look at it like my books that I purchase. They are just more than movies but for me it's about learning about the filmmaker, film techniques, international cinema and why the film is important to that country's culture and more. The fact that they are educational also makes it as an investment for my line of business. They are as important as my art, cinema and media books and I see it more than just entertainment.

As for those who own over a thousand Blu-rays, that doesn't surprise me. I've been in that boat but it's easy to get caught up in something you enjoy. Especially when there are sales and other motivations. But like anything you enjoy so much...it's about practicing moderation if it becomes a problem.

This might be totally off the wall, and maybe I'm on my own here, but I'd like to see Annie Hall get the Criterion treatment.

Or at least any type of blu ray release...or even dvd for that matter.
