As of yet, I haven't heard of anyone receiving it in a plastic case from Amazon or anywhere yet.

Has anyone heard or read any news about Cronos being released by Criterion soon?
I thought that was in the works, people were saying it would be released Halloween of last year.

even though I watch about a film a day I still am not even close to getting caught up with all the dvds and unwatched blus I have.
I mean it is seriously kind of embarrassing but I probably have over 100 movies that I own and haven't viewed yet.
and yet I just keep buying more and more titles.

The Man Who Fell to Earth just showed up at my door. The film, not the actual character

So far I've got:

8 1/2 (Should have come in the mail today via Amazon)
The 400 Blows
Che
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Gimme Shelter
Gomorrah
Kagemusha
The Last Emperor
Playtime
Repulsion
The Third Man

And I got Seven Samurai on DVD.

Every single one of these was a blind buy. I haven't watched 8 1/2 or Che yet. As for the rest, I really enjoyed all of them with the exception of The 400 Blows.

I don't think The 400 Blows was bad, but it really didn't appeal to me. At first I felt pretty involved with the film, but as it went on I felt less connected with the main character and lost interest in the plot. I think didn't get the film. It's probably a product of years of watching dumb Hollywood movies.

"Cronos" was hinted at in a Criterion Newsletter back around Halloween of last year, but as far an estimated release date, I haven't heard anything. I think people were expecting it sooner than later, though, because of the interviews with Guillermo del Toro stating that it was being worked on.

Or at least any type of blu ray release...or even dvd for that matter.
Unfortunately, I've read many times throughout the years that it won't happen. Criterion Collection is known for its special features and Woody Allen doesn't like them, he wants the viewer to focus only on his film.

I actually want to see Criterion pick up the Andy Warhol films Blu or even an Eclipse collection if need be.

Now is it just Blu-rays and DVD's because if you are like other people on blu-ray.com, there are other vices as well? Video games, books, magazine subscriptions?

***Btw, anyone want to join me on explaining to Criterion fans that Blu-ray is a good thing. Hehe...

I looked at the thread, and it's not even worth arguing, in my opinion.
Some people just don't get it.
The end is coming and you can't save everyone.

Most of the Criterion titles that have been out for awhile now have dropped to $21.99 on Amazon. Complete Monterey Pop is down to $38.49. Not too bad.

You have FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN and BLOOD FOR DRACULA, though not in blu or directed by him but I would think far more interesting then SLEEP, EMPIRE, or BLOW JOB.

But since they lost the right to those two films I wouldnt hold your breath

I would love to see Paul Morrissey's Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula on blu as much as I would love Warhol's short films on an Eclipse set. Love him or hate him, the Warhol films need the Criterion treatment. They are a huge part in film history and can't be ignored.

Speaking of the "Factory", anybody here a Velvet Underground fan?

You should join me over at Criterionforum where you would think Blu Ray is a curse word.

There's a Criterion sale on at Deep Discount.

Hopefully Amazon will beat them.

Eh... basically $21.97 on the Blu-Rays which is about the same prices as Amazon has right now. If Amazon drops their prices a few bucks lower I'll probably buy quite a few Criterion Blu's.

By the way, what exactly are those Art House volumes? Are these just regular Criterion releases packaged together?

Yeah. That sale is a load of bull.

On the other hand, a criterion dvd to 10$ is a good deal.

Probably is a good deal. But I cannot recall the last time I bought a DVD. I would just feel dirty buying non-BluRays.

Whats the deal with the Essential Art House collection? Is it not "real" criterion releases? How is the quality?

Well, here are somethings that I see special from the sale:

Box sets - Granted you can wait for the B&N 50% off sale plus the additional 10% off with membership and if there is another 25% coupon then.

But here are a few things that are worthy of picking up for cheap for $10, these were never released in the Criterion Collection but only in their Essential Arthouse vol. 4.

Gervaise
Le Jour Se Leve
Mayerling

If you haven't purchased Red Baloon/White Mane or Paddle to the Sea...it's $8. Not far off from B&N's $7.49 during the 50% off sale.

For Blu-ray: Gimme Shelter is cheaper than Amazon (Note: Gimme Shelter is $20.99 and free shipping but it's only today's deal).

Comparing to amazon this is the cheapest price for Gimme Shelter and it's free shipping.

For newer DVD's...damn, don't see "Che".
