I read the same thing not sure if it was this forum or on the hot sales forum but I guess a B&N employee posted that because of the success of the sale, they are looking to do the sale every three months.

Btw...for those who are planning to buy from B&N ala B3G1Free for the new Criterion Blu's...check your GMAIL (listed in the sponsor link on top) account..google has a 10% off code.

Default Che or The General?

Hey everyone...about to make a purchase and 8 1/2 and Paris, Texas are wants...but "Che"...I want but it's not more of Soderbergh or even Del Toro or Guevarra but for the utilization of the RED One Camera. Truthfully, it was my main motivation because of the quality.

But right now I'm back peddling and considering "The General" Blu-ray from Kino or the Chantal Akerman Eclipse Series from Criterion.

Part of the reason is that I'm not a big fan of Soderbergh later works post-2000. Aside from "Sex, Lies and Videotape", "Erin Brokovich" and "Traffic", I dislike all his Ocean's films, I dislike his "Solaris". Granted, I do find interest in "The Informant!" and "The Girlfriend Experience" that he directed but have not watched them yet....anyway, I'm going back and forth on this one.

So, I spent some time reading the majority of the reviews from Rotten Tomatoes (63% rating) and the reviews are so mixed...

For those who have "Che", aside from the beautiful PQ...for the film itself, do you a) see yourself watching it multiple times b) did you feel it had a great story c) after watching it, were you inspired? (ie. when I watched "Battle of Algiers" for the first time, I loved it and loved every special feature Criterion included).

You don't like the Ocean's movies?!
Oh man! I LOVE those.
Every time I see Brad Pitt or George Clooney, I wish I had the money to dress like that every day of my life.

I know what you're talking about. To me, I just have to look at it this way: If this were not a Criterion disc, would I be buying it? The answer for Che is no. I didn't particularly care for the movie and wouldn't consider buying it if it was just a standard studio-issued blu. I'll admit, even I'm tempted to pick up this version just because I love the idea of what Criterion has done with the film and extras and packaging and whatnot, but in the end I just have to focus on the film, so don't believe it's worth it.

We don't know how he/she does it (like an endless supply of used Criterions that is continually being posted nearly every day - these are legit, comes with the books and everything) but they all start out at $11.99 free shipping (inc. Blu-rays, box sets) and everything I have purchased from this seller came complete thus far and all very good condition (some that still had the security seal). In fact, I had no intention of purchasing "Wages of Fear" on BD but I got it for $11.99 and it came with the new case. In fact, a lot of new titles somehow show up on this person's list at times. I discovered this after the B&N sale last year. Good luck! eBay My World - 91pilot
Thanks for the heads up. Just won Monsters and Madmen set for 23 bucks.

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

Of course, so do I, so I can't help you.

I ordered three cases on December 16th (The Third Man, Last Year at Marienbad, and Chungking Express) and I just got an email yesterday from Criterion confirming that they had shipped them. I ordered all three movies from Amazon and the digipak packaging arrived almost flattened, so they look weird next to my other Criterion Blu-rays.

I'm really tempted to buy all of Criterion's Blu-rays, but I learned my lesson when I used to buy DVDs left and right and some of then would still be unopened years later. Big waste of money. I'm being more selective with my Blu-rays, so even if the prices are ridiculously low for some titles, I won't buy them unless I'll get multiple viewings out of them. Some of the Criterion Blu-rays that I won't be getting because I know I won't watch them more than once, even if I did like most of them: El Norte, The Man Who Fell To Earth, In The Realm of the Senses, Howard's End, The Last Metro, For All Mankind, Gimme Shelter and The Monterey Pop...plus all of the IFC Films Blu-rays released so far (not impressed with A Christmas Tale and Gomorrah, and I haven't seen Che yet, although I'm looking forward to "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and "Following", hoping they are released on Blu-ray).

The "Oceans" movies were made to be big box office hits so he can get funding for his more personal work, like Che or The Girlfriend Experience.
That doesn't mean he didn't try to make them good, but they are definitely mainstream, unlike his other works.

As for Che, I probably won't be seeing it over and over, but I will definitely watch certain scenes or chapters a lot after the first complete viewing.

I bought Che, A Christmas Tale and Bottle Rocket for $67.98 (tax included) at BN with the B2G1 sale and a 15% off the highest priced item (Che) for new accounts.
Would have paid $79 at Amazon. Not bad...

Just wondering something. When you pre-order on amazon.com, do they charge your VISA when you place the order or when they ship your package?

Im wondering if I should pre-order or not. If theyll charge my VISA right away then Ill do it. If not, I would probably spend all my money before they ship it.

That's what I've done, and I haven't even had the time to watch more than three or four of them.
It's definitely an addiction.

if youre looking to buy them all and dont have any, theres an auction on ebay right now for all of them up through the newest releases (with all but 4 being sealed). id imagine youd be able to get them for under 17 a piece this way.

Then again, is it really a problem if you have watched & enjoyed every one?

I only need "Monterey Pop" and "Paris, Texas', and I'll be all caught up.
Does Criterion think I'm made of money?

Let the bears pay the bear tax. I pay the Homer tax!
