Reading through this thread yesterday, I noticed that a lot of people have been getting their replacement Blu-Ray cases - or at least notification that they have shipped - even though they ordered their cases way after me (I paid for them on the first day they became available). So I emailed Criterion to see what was going on, and it turns out they made an error and never added me to the list of people who should be receiving cases. The lady was very nice and apologetic and offered me either a full refund, or to ship them out via 2nd day shipping on their dime. Needless to say I still wanted the cases.

Gotta love Criterion customer service

Taste of Cherry (I have never seen an Abbas Kiarostami film, but La Binoche is in his new film, so I have to prepare )
The Ruling Class (big Alastair Sim fan, but never saw this)
Hobson's Choice (big Charles Laughton fan, but never saw this)
That Hamilton Woman

Also, can anyone convince me to buy Eric Rohmer: Six Moral Tales? That would be a total blind buy, but at 50% off it would be worth it.

EDIT: Never mind, totally worth it.

EDIT #2: The total for all this right now on Amazon is $579.84!
"Eric Rohmer: Six Moral Tales" is one of the best DVD box sets I have bought. It's really great. Also, the Agnes Varda, Cassavetes, Fassbinder, Dreyer sets are awesome. The next sale I'm going after:

- Akerman in the Seventies - Eclipse
- Berlin Alexanderplatz
- Both Bergman box sets
- Rosselini's War Trilogy
- The Human Condition
- Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters and Patriotism
- Hiroshima, Mon Amour
- Both Ophul films I want - La Ronde and Le Plaisir

just out of curiosity... when you order these replacement cases.. do they only come only with the plane white/ clear cases or do you get the cases + new cover-arts etc to go with them?

They come with cover art as well. Criterion wouldn't make you print out your own cover art

For this deal you get both.

I'm guessing if you are ordering cases for outside of the titles that had the original digibook casing, you still have to pay $5 each for the case and the cover art. = $10. I had to pay $10 for "For All Mankind".

Yeah, in my town the Barnes and Noble only had the dvd, so then I checked best buy and they had nothing. This happened last week to when "Che" came out, I ended up driving 45 min. away to a different Barnes and Nobles to get it. Whats the issue here?

My girlfriend (who I've lived with for over four years now, so we're basically married without tax benefits, but hey we're 26 and 24 respectively, we have plenty of time for the tax benefits) actually encourages my love of blu-ray buying, Criterion especially. And especially when I can get them on sale. During the last B&N sale, she kept telling me to get titles I didn't want (like Howards End and Monsoon Wedding) because the store had them and I got everything else they had already.

She enjoys movies just as much as I do, and while she may not know most of these films before hand, she's all for me buying something and us sitting down to watch it without really knowing anything about it at all. I definitely get more of the movie picking responsibilty, which of course I'm more than fine with, and she gets the (at times) ultimate "blind" viewing experience.

What drives my girlfriend crazy is our DVD/blu-ray storage issues. But that's another story entirely...

I was dumb and forgot to call my local Barnes last week usually they will order you in a copy reserved for you. They dont' charge you or anything, they just hold it for you for a week or so in your name.

but I waited to long to have them order me in a copy, I also thought well this a well known film (Paris, Texas) and i was shocked they didn't get it in. Kind of annoying. I had them order me in a copy that and the BD for Toolbox Murders (Blue-Underground) and was trying to decide on the third title for the buy one get one free.

As for my wife, she thinks I don't purchase Blu-rays and DVD because I receive titles weekly for review (no, I'm not among the very few lucky ones to get continual Criterion releases to review each month). But I would imagine she would be upset if she knew.

Her main concern is time with family and space usage. And also how much time I hog the living room (especially when she wants to watch her shows). She and I do not share the same appreciation for film, nor does she have the patience to watch a film that I like unless she's with my son watching a children's film. But she did watch "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" with me, but I would assume it was because Brad Pitt was in it...hehe.

With B&N bm stores, I always thought they get things late. During the sale, it was hit and miss for BD releases at our store. It seems like there were a lot of "Monsoon Wedding" and "Repulsion" but everything else were the DVD versions of those films they were missing on Blu, that they did get in.

Now wait a minute. "Paris, Texas" may be well-known to us and those who watch cinema...but outside of this Criterion forum thread and you ask the many people about "Paris, Texas"...I would guess that very little of them know what the film is about.

Today is our "Paris, Texas" and "Rosselini War Trilogy" day...for the other masses, today is probably "Michael Jackson's THIS IS IT" or "Surrogates" day.

Personally, I'm actually in good financial states - no debt, and I'm able to save some money towards the future. I very well could buy more DVDs/BDs than I do, but I came to the conclusion 3-4 years ago that buying films I didn't like / didn't like enough to own just to be a completest wasn't worth it to me.

But if that's your thing, then go for it, I say. You only live once.
