This is a fear that most of us have, although someone said it best on here. That they have been waiting since LD days for some of those movies to come to the collection, and that they dont want to wait for years and years of not seeing a movie because of the possibility of it coming out.

I feel the same way. Of course you should refrain from getting the staple titles (if you dont have them) seven samauri, bicycle thieves, amaracord, etc because those are bound to come to blu sooner rather then later. Look at what has been released: 400 blows, marienbad, seventh seal etc.

So if you are interested in a movie where it is not considered to be on of the seminal classic releases I think you will be fine in picking up the dvd. Because really, what is 25-30 dollars for a movie you will get repeated joy out of for the next 2+

But as a side note...I have a friend that will buy any criterion movie off of me for half the price I paid for it when I want to upgrade them to blu

It's already out on blu-ray.

Anyone know how long it's taking Criterion to send out replacement cases when ordered?

Thanks!

I'm also curious about this, as I ordered all 8 of the replacement cases on Feb 15th.

I really wish they had a better system for this -- it would make more sense to just put them on their main store (maybe they don't want to advertise these so openly?) where they could be easily purchased/tracked. I just would appreciate some acknowledgment and/or an estimated time of arrival.

I previously ordered "The 400 Blows" replacement and it took about 4 weeks (apparently they were out of stock around Christmas/New Years), but I emailed them about 3 weeks after ordering to see how it was coming along. Now I'm re-ordering the full 8 because I would like an additional clear case for Benjamin Button, so I'll give them another week or so before sending out another email.

Took me 39 days to get my replacement cases.
Be patient, they'll come.

I ordered one for The Last Emperor. I don't mind waiting, just wanted to know how long I should wait for. Lol.

my friend had to call after 6 weeks to enquire about his cases.
maybe his order got misplaced--I have no idea.
I love Criterion, but let's not fool ourselves--
this replacement program--though a good thing obviously--
has not been run very well imo.
They should have just added the cases to the site store imo as one thing that would have made things easier.
the plan they came up with has been poorly executed imo especially regarding the constant need to order more cases.

Hello,

What do you think the chances are that Criterion will put out Louis Malle's "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud " (Elevator to the Gallows) on blu-ray?
That's one of my favorites, especially for the Miles Davis score...

The back of my Criterion DVD version says "Studio Canal", so, perhaps it will be released by them?

Regards,

Larry

Also, Criterion DVD's can easily be sold on eBay and still make anywhere between $12-$17 (excluding Criterion Wes Anderson, Kevin Smith, Michael which are always under $10).

And although I said I won't post it again, I'll do it once more (just once and this is it). If you want to own a lot of the Criterion Collection (on DVD, inc. Eclipse and box sets and sometimes Criterion on Blu-ray) without spending a lot of money. Get it from this seller...nearly everyday, every week...hundreds of Criterions are being sold by this seller (and because they have access to so many Criterions daily, makes me wonder if Criterion is involved sometimes). The majority of everything are in great condition, with the inserts, cover art, etc. and free shipping and everything inc. the box sets start at $11.99. If its going too much for you one day, don't worry...they continually add more Criterions like ever 24 hours and each auction lasts for 24 hours instead of the usual week.

I've been buying from him since you posted the first time.
Last order I got the case was torn up with a note that said "case damaged, disc okay" and another dvd came without the booklet.

Sorry to hear that. I think I've purchased around 150+ titles so far and no problem. Well, only one....I Fidanzati had no booklet. But again, that's one out of over a hundred titles.

I'm a female The name is Sabrina. I've been lurking here for a few days and this made me want to post. Haha.

I don't have a large collection (even though I've been a fan for years just never had the money) but it's steadily growing.

I'd like to put my two cents in about some of the films being discussed here. I loved Seventh Seal...I like Ingmar Bergman alot actually. I haven't seen Revanche yet or Hunger but looking forward to seeing them.

I hated Chasing Amy Haha. I don't do well with modern chick flicks and I'm a chick! LOL :P. The kinds of films I enjoy collecting the most are film noir and the one director I own the most criterion's of is Jean-Pierre Melville - so that shows what kind of films I enjoy :P

You know...by admitting that you enjoyed "Seventh Seal", noir and Melville, these guys on this mailing list are going to be flirting with you. Hehe...J/k!

Welcome to the thread Sabrina and I hope there are more women on here who have equally great taste in cinema like you and will also chime in.

My UPS guy is AWESOME! Here's what he brought me today!

I think I'm going to start it out with Revanche, as it seems to be creating quite a buzz around here. Then I'll probably move onto El Norte because I haven't seen that before, either...

Quite an awesome week of Criterions ahead! I think I'm getting addicted...

I know what you mean.

I don't have anyone to watch Criterion's with...my mom watches classic Hollywood films with me sometimes but she wouldn't have the patience for a film like L'eclisse which is one of my favorite films btw LOL
