I'm actually happy this question was just asked an answered. I was about ready to buy both movies seperately (I hate box sets for the most part) but knowing that this is essentially a box you can get rid of and just pretend you bought them seperately anyway...I'm all over that.

Since most of the folks on this thread are fans of arthouse films I figured I'd throw this out there. There is an "up to 52% off" sale on Kino films at Deep Discount online. Big selection of a couple hundred films. Looks like all regular DVD though.

So, therefore I don't see you having a valid argument with your order not arriving on the release date. If your impatience is that high, then I suggest not taking the risk with Criterion for your pre-orders. And you can always track the package with the UPS tracking # they provide for your disc orders. My March 23rd orders shipped last Thursday, as well, and were received yesterday. Criterion ships from Kentucky, so I would expect East Coast orders to be received sooner than parts out west.

Never said they did. My gripe is shipping via UPS when site says it will ship USPS to PO boxes. And when I get home, will see if there are any other gripes to add; if so, definitely won't be using Criterion again. Okay with you?

I could also see # 248 Videodrome and #249 The Battle of Algiers getting released, though I have no real compelling reason to speculate on them.

Thoughts?

I'd bet on the BRD Trilogy coming to blu (unless for some reason it didn't sell very well). Throw in Lili Marlene too while they're at it.

Probably be smarter to import it. Last time I checked (a while ago), there was a UK PAL release still available.

Certainly more likely than larger box sets.

I'm going crazy with this sale like the B&N 50% off sale from November. A bit ticked at myself because I had the "Fanny Trilogy" in my cart but waited too long while I was looking at the other titles and by the time I checked out....they ran out of copies. Not sure how quick DD would get more copies in but nevertheless, purchased plenty!

I am still tempted on "La Ronde"...since Anna Karina and Jane Fonda are in it but heard it's a bad remake of the original Ophuls film.

And yeah...these are DVD's and I doubt many of them, especially the films from 1897-1930's will get a Blu-ray release unlike the popular titles which have major funding for restoration. But for silent film fans...this sale is like a rare opportunity and I'm loving it!

Just watched Days of Heaven the other day and was amazed. The movie itself was gorgeous. Have read many reviews that claim it's the most beautiful movie ever shot and can definitely see why. The epic, dramatic panoramic views of what is supposed to be Texas and the connection of nature to everyday life was breathtaking. Considering it was made over 30 years ago, the picture quality was phenomenal--better quality-wise than most recent movies. Glad to see that The Thin Red Line looks to be coming out later this year and hoping Badlands finds a blu release very soon, also.

Had to go to THREE different Best Buy stores to FINALLY locate the Yojimbo & Sanjuro box set. Was hoping to find Yojimbo by itself and save money, but then I realized it was cheaper to buy the box set. Can't wait to watch them this weekend in glorious hi-def.

Quick question about the disc-replacement program.

I have The 400 Blows, The Third Man, and Last Year at Marienbad all in old cases. I don't have a Paypal account, is there any other way to order the case replacements? Or do I need Paypal?

DD's sales are a mirage. They just take the % of the list price. In the end it's comparable to Amazon.

Did you not have a computer nearby so that you could check the availabilty of the movies before wasting the time to drive around to three Best Buy stores?

From what I've heard, you can call Criterion directly and they'll accept a credit card payment over the phone for the replacement cases.

I checked the availability, and all three said they had it. When I got there, it was nowhere to be found

Hmm, I'll try calling Criterion then. I'd really rather not use Paypal.

The people at Criterion just call me Chris. Just kidding. I'm just an admirer of Criterion's output, and I try to supply the facts to the masses when I come across them. Other than that, I'm pretty much useless. There are many other users on here that have given more money to Criterion than I ever have, that's for sure. Thanks, though.
